How can we make a relationship durable?

We all are having some sort of relationship with others. It could be a friendship with a friend or a workplace relationship with a colleague or social relations in a group of people or love relations with one's fiancee or relationship between husband and wife or a relationship between close relatives and so on.
When there is a relationship then there might be times when differences between people arise and lead to conflicts and confrontation. That is a bad situation but it happens at times. Sometimes the relationships even break and that is the worst part of it. If the people involved handle these differences with patience and mutual faith and understanding then the situation can be controlled and the relationship can continue ahead. There are many ways to repair a relationship and bring it back to its earlier status but that requires a lot of patience and prudence from both parties. What are your views about it? How can we make a relationship durable?

This is my entry to month end forum contest on the topic - durable.

Retaining the relationship is a two way process. We hear many times that unless otherwise two hands meet there may not be any sound. So keeping or breaking the relationship depends on both the parties involved. However if one is having patience, he/she can contribute more for durability of the relationship. If one person is going in the opposite direction, if the other person also walks in the same direction, the distance will be maintained. Otherwise, the distance may become more.
If the other person is not understanding the situation, if we try to be patience and wait for him to come back to normalcy, the relationship may continue. But if both lose their cool, chances of relationship getting broken are more. Confidence in the other person and amicability in our approach may help us to retain the relationship for long.
