Why are we excited to meet or see the celebrities?

Celebrities have a great place in our society. Whether it is a cinema celebrity or a political celebrity or a famous artist or a renowned person in his area of work, we all are impressed by them and to some extent infatuated by these personalities. Though people of all ages are attracted to the celebrities and make beeline to meet them or see them in person but it is said that young people are much more effected by the celebrities in their lives than the other persons.
The effect of meeting or seeing a celebrity is more psychological than physical. We have got an image of the celebrities in our mind in such a way that when we meet or see them we become sentimentally excited.
I had witnessed a situation in which there was a big crowd to see a cinema celebrity and many young people especially students were standing in one corner. After seeing the celebrity everyone was excited and some of young people were even crying and one of them requested the cinema celebrity to hug him. The celebrity of course obliged and the crowd made a big applause.
Have you ever experienced such a behaviour of people towards celebrities? Why we are so much excited and impressed by them? Please share your views.

This is according to the place and time, I believe. When we are college students in Madurai, there was a huge crowd to see the cine celebrities. Moreover that time then cine actor M G R was very popular among people. He was also visiting Madurai frequently either for shooting or some functions or Election campaign. That time the crowd we cannot express words. During 1965, when Ex Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri came to Madurai Sri Meenakshi Amman Temple. That time all of our school (primary) students gone there to see him with national flag as organized by our school. Once a cine actor S S Rajendran and his wife (also an actress) Vijayakumari came to Madurai and stayed in a named lodge. We all went there and saw them and talking with them.
When I came to Chennai for employment, stayed in Kodambakkam, where there are many cine studios and saw many cine actors casually on road but found no crowd to see them. One day I went to CIT Nagar in search of some address and as I got confused the way I casually enquired in a car person who came slowly for turning. From the car, to my surprise famous actor Shivaji Ganesan peeped out his head and told the way to me.
These are just interest and some curiosity which varies from age level.

It is ubiquitous. If the people we see on the screen appear before us we will get excited. People used to take autographs to make that occasion memorable in the olden days. Now people are going for selfies and keep as a memory for the meeting.
One of my cousins was a great fan of the famous Telugu actor A Nageswara Rao. My cousin came to Hyderabad to attend a competitive examination. He came one day early to see Nageswara Rao and then write the examination. But on day one he could not meet ANR. So he skipped the examination and went to meet him and thus he lost a chance of getting selected for a government job. There are many such people who made many sacrifices to meet their heroes.
As far as I am concerned, I never tried to meet any celebrities but I met many such people while travelling in aircraft.

    always confident
