None more durable than a human heart
The invention of pumps, some two hundred years back, brought a revolution in our lives. With pumps, piped water in our homes was no more a pipe dream. It is true that the Indus Valley Civilization was able to deliver piped water to every home to some extent making use of gravity where water flowed from a higher to lower elevation. With due respect to the technology available then (some 4700 years back), it was still very basic in nature compared to the modern ones we have these days. No matter the height of the building or location, with a pump you can deliver piped water to any height. Pumps these days have many uses. They are used to fill diesel, petrol in our cars. In an aircraft, numerous pumps precisely deliver fuel to the engine, so that the aircraft flies uninterruptedly. A pump in a refrigerator circulates the refrigerant to get the required cooling. However, even with many advances in pump technology and their numerous applications, they cannot match one pump we have in this world. That pump is all natural, not fabricated. It is the human heart or in that sense any animal heart. The most advanced of pumps cannot be as durable as the human heart, which 24x7, seven days a week, 365 days a year, for decades together pumps and circulates the blood inside our veins and arteries. With an unmatchable performance, no doubt our heart is the most durable of pumps. It however requires a little bit of help from us to help it last long. All that we need to do is not lead a sedentary lifestyle and burden our heart by eating junk or oily food. A little exercise and our heart works like a champion. Fortunately, for those who have issues with their heart, our scientists and doctors have devised things like pacemakers that help make the heart work healthily to some extent. It is still a long way when a man-made object will be able to work as a true replacement for the human heart. Until then our heart is the strongest and most durable of all things that works non-stop in this world. No wonder, it does a world of good to us when we take care of it.
