Can CBSE schools teach through part-time or contract teachers?

The new pattern of Education sought to be introduced in private CBSE schools and other schools such as the Kendriya Vidyalaya, envisages a number of new electives such as psychology or sociology or history or even public administration. However, the number of competent teachers in such subjects, particularly with a good Master's Degree, are not available in small towns. How will the CBSE manage?

Can part-time or contract teachers be appointed and will that serve the purpose?

For the time being, all private schools affiliated to CBSE pattern need to take immediate steps to absorb teachers in the subjects mentioned by the author to ease the problems of the students. In small towns, it would be difficult to find the competent teachers in such subjects. I think the other option could be to display advertisements in both local and leading newspapers attracting the youths to come up for interviews to undertake the teaching professions in their schools according to their convenience allowing both the modes part time and regular basis to ensure that the normal studies of the students are not delayed inordinately affecting their studies. The aspirants turning on interviews are to be screened carefully to assess their potential.

Whether CBSE is hiring on part time basis or full time basis is not an important question. But their capability is more important, in my view. Even now many private schools are managing with less qualified by having them on hourly basis. The state government schools and colleges are getting managed without required number of teachers even in important subjects. Recently I visisted a state university which was a very reputed university. The entire department of a big subject is managed by only three faculty members. Earlier same department was having about 14 teaching staff members.
For immediate requirement it is better to take on part time basis so that the person can manage two or three schools so that he will also get good income and more students will get benefitted. I think the board should give more emphasis on the faculty of the schoos to which they are giving recognition.

CBSE schools or kendriya vidyalaya or government or private inter colleges in our country are most of the times hiring the teachers on temporary adhoc basis for particular subjects where regular appointments are yet to be done. It is a very old practice and these adhoc appointments are either done by the central authority or the principal of the college itself depending on the time of the academic session.
In our country there is no dearth of qualified people in any subject or in any stream. In fact number of such people is much more than the positions available for appointments in schools are colleges. The unemployment situation is such that even the highly qualified people are ready to go to remote and interior places for a job. So I do not think that there will be any problem on this account. Only thing is when the regular appointments are done based on the examination and interviews then these temporary teachers working on adhoc basis would be removed and the regular ones would be posted.

    Knowledge is power.
