I spy with my little eye...

I am sure many of you have played the game 'I spy with my little eye' during your childhood, perhaps even with your own kids and grandchildren. This post, though, is not about those fun, enjoyable moments. It's about that large white balloon that was spied in the skies above US territory and shot down by their fighter jets.

It was a really outrageous and audacious thing to do by the Chinese Govt. They claimed it was meant for capturing data about the weather. Naturally, nobody believed it for a minute. It was also absurd that they got into a huge dither when it got shot down. Now, really! What did they expect? That people would gaze awestruck, gasp, and take photos?!! That the US would allow it to meander its way like a tourist hot air balloon just about anywhere? Anything that intrudes into the area of a country, whether in the air, on land, or on the seas, would be considered a security threat and due action would surely be taken.

In the aftermath of this spy game, other countries, including India, will surely be wary and keep a sharp lookout for such and other "I spy" devices.

I have been following this news for the last few days. Now, the balloon has been shot down. But, I fail to understand why the US force did not do it earlier. One of my friends said that this is due to the fact that it was a helium balloon. So what if it was a helium balloon?

I think US administration under Biden has become too liberal and weak to face a rogue country like China.

China is not only an ambitious but also a notorious country. It will always try to invade the privacy of other countries through such offences either in the air or on the land.
We have to be very cautious with China as it can play all sort of tricks on the border between India and China.
If we recollect, China captured and annexed Tibet in a calm and quite way and the whole world simply looked at the event. India was also a passive onlooker and gave shelter to the refugees that fled to India during that aggression on Tibet by China. The chinese Govt is always in search of new land and territories for accommodating its large population.
It keeps all its citizens engaged in some sort of work or job that builds China stronger day by day. This policy is the main reason behind large scale construction and big manufacturing activity in China which is making it a number one seller if goods in the global market.
The baloon in the sky of US is one of the Chinese tricks.

As per reports, apparently, the US Govt. was not taking action immediately due to the possible harmful effects of the debris on the people below. They were monitoring it and tracking its path, waiting for an opportune moment to deal with it.

I think China is getting more aggressive in trying to attempt to stamp its superiority on the world. They want to establish their products as the best, their technology as the best, and so on, not to mention usurp other people's territory. What I fail to understand is why don't they focus on the problems in their own backyard instead of these shenanigans. They have a really major health problem with the Covid pandemic once again creating havoc on a large scale, but they seem to be reluctant to use foreign vaccines (though, I think, they finally did import some) or seek help from countries that have dealt with it effectively. As a consequence, sadly, the general public is suffering.

There is a proverb in Telugu which means a person who can't set right his house can never set right society. China is facing hell lot of problems due to COVID but not trying to set it right. Instead it is trying to take over areas belonging to other countries.
I doubt very much whether that balloon contains any harmful virus like Corona and may be trying to spread in other countries also. Anything is possible. With that doubt only the US might have delayed shooting it down. After thorough watching and when they felt that it is safe to shot it down they might have gone for it.
All other countries should come together and should attack China to teach a lesson to them. Now I think the US may not keep silent and definitely plan something.
Indian government should also be careful and watchful and observe keenly all the actions of this country. China is not learning lessons from its mistakes.

I had a thought- what if the balloon incident was just a red herring? Who knows if it was a distraction from something else?!

Let us wait for more information. China has made some grave mistakes. Xi Jinping has been facing the wrath of common Chinese and also from some Communist stalwarts within the party. I have come across a report where many former generals and high-ranking Chinese armed forces officers expressed their anguish over the deployment of untrained, unacclimatized PLA soldiers at Indian borders and Taiwan borders. The high death rates of PLA soldiers in various border skirmishes with India have also been a matter of concern for Xi. Navy is also unhappy because there has been a large number of Covid cases in various warships of China.
So far as Pakistan-China relationship is concerned, Chinese investment is not paying back. Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) is killing Chinese and Punjabis with equal ease in Baluchistan and even at Karachi harbour. The steps taken by China at Hambantota port of Sri Lanka have been backfiring. There are many other setbacks for Xi, even if we forget the huge loss to the country's economy due to frequent lockdowns.
Under these circumstances, we must not be astonished by any diversionary tactics of Xi-led China.

Partha, with reference to response #769419 I hope you read today's news about the tragic death of a balloon seller and three others who died when the helium balloons he was selling exploded.

Dr. Rao- your advice about other countries coming together to attack China is deplorable. War is something nobody wants and would be something that would occur only in defending one's own territory, the way Ukraine is doing now. Our brave hearts, too, are very much on the alert on the borders, as proven by that outrageous intrusion some years back by the Chinese soldiers who started hand-to-hand combat with our soldiers, not to mention other skirmishes.
