    Tussle between employer and employee

The relationship between an employer and an employee is very interesting. The employer will pay the employee as per the work performed and position occupied by the employee and at the same time employer will also ascertain that the employee performs well in all respect. On the other hand an employee will work as per one's career ambitions and also in proportion to the remuneration paid to him.
Some employees will not do more work than the amount of remuneration paid to them. That of course will be as per the judgement of the employee.
But a shrewd employer will not pay more and will try to take as much work from the employee as possible. This sometime brings conflict and confrontation between the employer and the employee and in extreme cases either the employer increases the salary of the employee or the employee leaves the organisation and joins elsewhere.
Have you got any experience in this regard? Please share your views.

In many organizations, the remuneration to the employees will be at par with perquisites. In some organizations the remunerations to the employees are high with perquisites. In general the remuneration is paid as per the amount fixed under Minimum Wages Act in our country. It is not correct to say by an employee that he would work according to his/her remuneration. This is the loss to his side only. If he is really not satisfied with the remuneration, he/she, either ask the management or just quit the organization as such attitude of the employee will affect the morale of the organization and leads to unrest in the organizational climate. There are, in almost all companies, system of Performance Appraisal and accordingly the revision of pay or increment is being paid. If there is no prevalence of such system the employee might have some dissatisfaction but in such case he or she should quit the organization as there are many people ready to work for that offer.
Mainly the employee should see the climate of the organization and the treatment he/she receives from the management and associates as his/her remuneration rather than the monetary one. In this way only many employees worked till last 20 years. But the recent labour turnover in organizations are high on one side as most of the employees are considering the monetary remuneration by comparing with other organizations simply.

What the author has indicated is really very interesting event.Unfortunately I could not be a part of private sectors to see how the bosses are bargaining in terms of job executions. In the public sector, there is a different culture of the boss to harass subordinates. They would ensure that their subordinates have not failed in compliance of his instructions relating to job targets. This phase continues for sometime and then a stage comes when the subordinates would report that they had completed some extra jobs from their ends to secure his favour( boss).Ultimately the boss becomes more demanding and would ensure that each of his subordinates must do some extra jobs.
Such a culture can benefit both the organisations and the bosses but the subordinates remain under severe stress.

In my opinion no organisation will pay more than what they gained from you. If your work is worth one rupee they may pay you maximum 90 paise only. This is a rule and nobody will violate the same. The moment the employer feels that he is paying more than worth, definitely they never hesitate to show the exit to the employee.
That is why I always advise my juniors to love their job not the organisation. The organization will utilise your services and pay for it. The moment they feel that they don't require your services, without any hesitation, they will show you the out gate.
This is the situation in private organisations. I never know how it will be in government establishments as I never worked in a government establishment. No person will be entertained without output. I know a company in Hyderabad. They are not very good pay masters. The retirement age is 55 years. After 55 years if they want to utilise the services of the employee they reduce the salary by 30% and ask them to continue.

There was a time when there were Industrial Relations problem. The birth of trade union is because of the earlier time exploitation of employees by employers. Those were the time when employment was scarce to come and demand for employment was very high. It was an employer's domination scene. So there were exploitations and employees had to submit to it as thy were in need of job and income.

By and by scenes changed and even they got reversed whereby organised trade unions started dominating and blackmailing employers. As a result many hundreds of companies had to be closed for ever.

The current scene is more or less balanced and peaceful industrial relations .This is mainly due to the labour laws protecting both employers and employees and also from the fact that there are many opportunities and alternatives for both sides. There is also awareness on both sides that it is only with a smooth relationship and mutual trust and benefit that a win-win situation can be created and sustained.

Today the job market is running and varies depending on the demand-supply situation existing at any given time. All related terms and conditions are as per that.
