Students have to change their mindsets for making a career in the present environment

Students have to change their mind set in the present environment as regards to making a career or searching for some employment. Why I am mentioning this is because today's business environment is very different from what it was in earlier times.
Another thing is the government jobs are shrinking and whatever jobs are there it is only in the private sector.
In this scenario the students who are opting for technical certificate or diploma just after their high school and then seeking some job in some product or service industry are at least able to make a livelihood and lead a middle class life. The problem is coming for those students who are not very good academically but are ambitious and want to acquire higher qualifications and seek some high level job. Unfortunately these categories of students get disappointment in their lives because it is not easy to get a good job with a mediocre score today. Everywhere there is stiff competition and a lot of screening after which only the top lot gets the position and all others only get rejections.
Many experts today feel that in the present circumstances students should opt for either some trade related qualifications or try to start or join a small business and work hard for a livelihood.
What do the members opine about this? Please share.

Slowly the concept of permanent job is going away. Work and earn, is the new concept. You need not be an employee of a company. You can take up projects and complete that and then look for another. This system may come. I am not talking about India only. The trend is there in entire world.
So acquiring skills is very important. Irrespective of your qualification, you should have sound skills in one particular niche area and that will only help us in getting stability in our life. One should try to get into some work and then trying for further improvement is the best option.
At the same time, I like to mention that the qualification we acquire will have its value always and as you acquire higher qualification, chances of flourishing in the career is definitely better. But due to unemployment problem different thoughts are developing. Anyhow all depends on the individual and his/ her thinking.

The earlier concept of getting a permanent job for decent earnings is slowing fading in and the companies are trying to downsize the manpower to maximise their profits. The organisations are working in many angles to keep their expenditures on control. If such a trend is taking place in the job market, we need to gear up ourselves for acceptance of such trends. Without loosing our confidence, we have to choose the best profession where we could be comfortable with our engagements. Hence the new concept is work and learn so that skills of learning could be further strengthened to achieve the best jobs available in the market. In the existing system, the only solution is to be alert relating to demands of the market and the aspirants have to do everything to match themselves with the existing openings.

Always there will be some students who are serious and academically strong and some who are not that strong. This is applicable everywhere in the world and in that case, changing the mindset alone will not help them to get the desired jobs.

Recently, I was watching some videos of our former president Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam where he opined to reduce 25% of the syllabus of classes 9 to 12 and introduce skill training in place of the reduced syllabus to help them become employable. He also opined for a 1-year expertise course in the 4-years duration graduation courses by breaking it up into 3+1. I don't think it's been implemented anywhere till now. One must have the required skills to get a job and policy-makers also have a great role here. Scenarios will change and accordingly, the syllabus and policies must change.

It is totally wrong to say that Government jobs are not available. Government jobs were available always in India no matter which Government were in the centre. But yes, compared to our vast populations, it is obviously less which we need to understand. A government job is not a lollipop that one gets it in the kirana store, to get a government job years of hard work are required to pass the tough competition examinations. There are numbers of government jobs available but our students will not want to work hard to get them, it is as simple as that. When I passed out of school, I had seen after 10+2 many of our friends started working hard for competitive examinations. If I talk about my 20 friends out of 15 they all got government jobs in railways, banking and administration offices.

Coming to the private sector, yes now there are so many jobs which sometimes provide good packages. However, to get success in the private sector, one has to work hard too. Also, today's youth are much ahead of time and they know where and in which field they will get success. So, I am not much bothered about their mindset, they are very clear about what to get in their life.
