Regarding privacy while we use Telegram, Whatsapp, etc

Many times I and my friends use various apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, etc for chatting, video calls, or sending videos and audio to each other. Now, I was just thinking are these really safe and secure? Are the material (especially live video calls and recorded videos which we share with each other in fun) can be viewed by any third person, staff working in the company of the messenger service or government agencies? It is to be noted here that we have not used any additional security features like "secret chats" of Telegram etc. Instead, we just use regular or by default features.

What are your views on this? Is there total privacy when using messenger services?

There are a large number of people who are using social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Telegram etc and these sites claim that they are very safe and secure. But there are some hackers and intelligent people who have a good knowledge of coding and application softwares and some of them who are in the evil domain of activities can create problems for the people by siphoning out some personal data and personal details along with any important document which can create harm to an individual or a company.
So these sites are not 100% safe and secure and time and again we had seen that the security was breached by the phishing and hacking techniques.

WhatsApp, Telegram and other similar sites always say that these sites are very safe and secure. End to end encryption is also there in WhatsApp and Telegram, the say. So the messages you send will appear only to the person whom you have send it. No third party can see that. If it is sent to a group, all the members in the group can see the messages. Even in Facebook you posts can be seen by your friends only.
But we can't take these sites as 100% safe and secure. It is better not to use for sending confidential and personal information etc. Videos also should be removed once the purpose is over. It is always better to send emails to the person using his email address always. WhatsApp and Telegram are much safe than other social media sites.

It's a total myth that we have privacy in social media. In today's internet, nothing is hidden. What you eat, what you search for, what is your interest, where you last travelled, everything is in the record. Whether it is WhatsApp, telegram, google or FBi, our privacy is all open. Even sometimes knowingly or unknowingly, we provide all our small-small details on social media.

Yes, one thing is sure if you are not doing any anti-national activities, not doing anything that harms society, you are secure. So, use the social media app but do not blindly. What you write or provide, it totally depends on you.

I will like to add that there are some people active in the web space who are very much aware about the social media sites, their working, their safety concerns, and many other technical things regarding them. These people very cleverly lure the innocent and gullible social media users to their sites or some trap where they will subsequently squeeze some money from the social media user. Many people have lost money through these interactions and we should be careful about them whenever we use any social media site for connecting to our friends and family.
These evil people operate in such a manner that once the fraud is over the user cannot get them nabbed by the police because even the cyber security cells cannot locate them or cannot pin point them. With their technical knowhow they quickly appear and disappear in the social media sites.
