Ghandy became Gandhi! Great men and women can do anything.

Ved Prakash Anand, I do not know how you concluded that people understood the surname Gandhi (of Indira Gandhi) is related to Mahatma Gandhi. This is not something surprising and those who are aware know very well that Indira Gandhi is not related to Mahatma Gandhi in any way. You are not revealing any 'real' story here and you only know why you raked up the issue, rather shall I say found it so important to highlight at this juncture. What is to be discussed in this post? Do you think this thread entails a good discussion other than political mud-slinging?

Is there any ban to discuss the surname issue in ISC? As far as I know, this has been discussed in the Parliament itself during the ongoing Budget session.

@Sankalan Bhattacharya
I just came to know only a few days back through one of the news channels and thought to share this for those who were not aware of this but on what account this is so irritating for you?
If I am not as aware as you then I do not feel this is so much obscene for me. And the rest one can conclude anything from the post, I actually cannot help.

Partha K @#769642, it is not banned in any way, if so the thread could have been deleted. Hope this will not be another thread where there will be an unnecessary confrontation between the members supporting different political parties. There are so many issues discussed in Parliament but do not know what comes out just by discussing a surname. Does it help to solve any of the issues our country is facing?
Ved Prakash Anand @#769643, the post is neither irritating nor obscene but since you gave the title of the post as a real story there must be a fake story also doing the rounds. Just be aware of fake and real stories, that's it.

Sankalan Sir has asked whether discussion on a topic in the Parliament help to solve any of the issues our country is facing. There are many issues which have been discussed in the Parliament and solution came thereafter. As for example, very recently triple talaq, abrogation of article 370 and article 35A were discussed and the problems before the country have been solved.
We also hope that in near future, UCC problem will be solved after a discussion in the Parliament and subsequent voting.
But, I don't find such remark from Sankalan Sir about the Parliament of very good taste. Perhaps he doesn't want discussion on those important issues as mentioned by me on the floors of the Houses.

Partha K, possibly you got me wrong and request you please re-read my previous response. I have never said that discussions in parliament don't solve any issue. Parliament is the place to discuss and debate to resolve the issues and I asked whether a discussion only on the surname issue, which you mentioned in the response @#769642, helps to resolve any problem. I hope now it is clear.

I never know about this. I read somewhere that Indira Gandhi and Feroze Khan were in love but Nehru is against that marriage. Then Gandhi came in between and he adopted Feroze Khan and made Feroze Gandhi. I read that he did to convince Nehru and finally he convinced him and the marriage took place. I don't know that his surname was Ghandy and later on it was changed to Gandhi.

As Shakespeare said, 'What is in a name'? We have so many people around the world who have changed their names and surnames. Let us take our own Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar for example. It was a Brahmin teacher of his who changed his surname to Ambedkar. We have got freedom fighters who relinquished their religious surnames.
The taking up of the name of Gandhi by Feroze and then what has become their family name has always been a matter of political interest rather than any public issue related to the same. Even I have read about Gandhiji adopting Feroze Ghandy to facilitate his marriage with Indira which was opposed by Nehru.
It is in fact an old story and we all know why the issue is being raked up time and again. Refreshing the issue periodically does not yield any result because even an illiterate Indian knows that Feroze or Indira are from the Nehru family and are in no way related to Gandhiji.
There is no ban in discussing any topic or any person in this site but there should be substance in what you say and it should not be mere repetitions of what we get to see and read in the social media which are posted by some vested interests.

Although I knew about this Ghandy-Gandhi issue even when I was in college. But we know that many people are not aware of this fact. For their information, the issue must be discussed in different platforms.
Saji Sir has stated that there must be substance in issues for discussion. But who will decide whether there is substance in the issue, or not. Certainly, Saji Sir or Sankalan Sir won't decide it.

What I missed in the thread is that @Sankalan Bhattacharya has got the tag "Editor". Does not matter. This may be because this platform does not excite me much for participation for quite some time.
Going ahead,
@Sankalan Bhattacharya / #769641,
What do you have to say for this submission / #769659?
@SajiGanesh, you are again making a slip-up here. Same question for you.

I really do not what has happened to the Editor and the Lead Editor here.
Sankalan Bhattacharya writes,
"You are not revealing any 'real' story here………"
And SajiGanesh, writes,
"It is in fact an old story and we all know why the issue is being raked up time and again. Refreshing the issue periodically does not yield any result because even an illiterate Indian knows that Feroze or Indira are from the Nehru family and are in no way related to Gandhiji."
You both made me laugh here.
However, even if one member got to know of this, I feel delighted of my post.

Partha and Ved Prakash, the very basic question I was trying to put across was as to why this point needs to be discussed? What makes it so important for you and why are you so interested in spreading this story?
If you are in for a discussion, come up with points instead of merely quoting other responses. Answer my query first instead of just putting up counter questions that will not have any different answers.
Ridiculing editors when you have nothing to explain is not the way if you really intend to have a serious discussion. Remember, you are not simply forwarding a Whatsapp message here.

Do not you feel that after allowing a thread and then asking for its relevance, you are contradicting your own stand with the terms and conditions of ISC platform?
Please delete it if this does not match with the criteria of ISC but kindly stop making nuisance submissions because this quite irritating for me.

The content provided by the author is correct. Why bother about other things and make an issue. This much of discussion is not needed.

Yes, KVRR, that was exactly my point. Since the author has now tactfully backed out , I am locking this thread as there is no need to discuss the point any further.
