I have the world in my pocket! Do you also have it?

With the help of mobile phones, people across the globe can do so many activities. They just take their smartphone and walk out of the house. Some of them even do not carry their wallets and many of them do not even wear a wristwatch. Technology has become well-advanced in the digital world of today.

By using the mobile phone, people can do net banking, check their bank balance, and connect to their friends and relatives who stay out of their country. Shopping on the internet through Amazon, Flipkart, Meeshow, and other shopping portals has increased by leaps and bounds. Even small children easily open those sites and ask their parents to buy things for them. Payment is also made online via GPay, Amazon pay, and other sites.

Ola and Uber cabs are available at your beck and call all the time. Even if anyone wants to visit a new place, Google map guides them safely to their destination.

The social networking sites such as Facebook, Whatsapp, and Twitter are being used by people of all age groups, and connecting to them has become very easy. Not only that videos and photos are being shared instantly after they are taken.,

Weddings can also be viewed directly by those who are unable to attend them. For example, when a wedding is conducted in a country far away from their native place, the bride and bridegroom give access to those who are interested in watching it on their mobile phones.

On the flip side, criminals also sometimes cheat you unaware. Innocent people get cheated by cyber criminals who wait eagerly to siphon off the hard-earned money of such people. Very often the media reports about people falling into the net of those criminals who have also become experts in using the latest technology.

I am sure that you would agree with me if I say "The world is in my pocket'. If I have missed out on any important activity that you do on your mobile phone, please add that point also.

In 2003-04, Reliance introduced its mobile network. The slogan they used is 'Kar Lo Duniya Muththi Mein', which means 'take control of the world'. Now the author says, the world is in my pocket. My friend says the world is in my hand as he carries his mobile phone in his hand.
Many a time the point has been discussed on many platforms including ISC also about the advantages of a cell phone. The author is very correct in saying that we can do all our work with a smart phone in our hand. These days smart phones have become our offices also. Wherever you are, you can be in touch with your family and office and get the work done. People can also reach you as and when they want.
Like any other gadget, this smart phone also is having some negatives that are mentioned by the author. The user should be wise enough to utilise the available technology and convenience for his benefit and happiness.

Smartphones and internet have made it possible that we can say that world is in our pocket. All this has brought a paradigm shift in our lives. We can do so many things on the go. We can check our accounts, send money or make payments while moving. We can give order for material and by the time we return to our homes, it will be delivered to us. It has become very easy and convenient for the people to manage their day to day lives using the smartphone having data for accessing internet.
Some hackers and cheats are misusing the power of internet and it is obvious that we should be careful from their evil activities and the various ways through which they cheat and exploit us.

    Knowledge is power.

The title of the thread actually reflects the way of thinking of the people of this era who feel that owning a smart phone will bring the world to them. Keeping in mind the fact that smartphones have so many benefits, I think we should also be aware that there are so many things around us that cannot be done with a smart phone.

Digital payments, ordering things online, searching for knowledge and relying on Google map for finding your way are all fine but do you think the are totally reliable? Haven't we come across problems created by network issues or the server being down? I can cite any number of instances where even government offices have found it difficult to function for days together due to connectivity issues. Have you seen people not being able to make payments using payment apps due to connectivity problems? And have you ever felt misguided by the vocal guide in the Google map? I know people who drove back to the same location from where they started by following the Google map. It happens.

After all it is technology and is, I think, inferior to the way human brains function. So, I think we need to give it a second thought when we say that the world is in my pocket. It may be in your pocket but you need to be cautious and intelligent enough to understand that it is not the world. There is more to it.
