    News reading and news readers then and now.

    In the initial days of television the only channel called doordarshan shortly DD, the news reading was really an art and every news reader in fact were celebrated. Also the time of news is very limited unlike now and news has become very vital in our life. Also sometimes the news has seen as disturbance when a movie was break by it. It is still in the sweet memory at sharp 7.00 p.m.

    National and regional channels are having set of news readers for news reading. For Tamil the famous news readers are Shobana Ravi, Fathima Babu Nijanthan Varadharajan, Sridhar etc They mostly worked in DD and later some of them went to satellite channels. So members may come up with other regional or national news reading and readers.

    After the 24/7 news channel started there is no importance in news reading but only breaking news and flash news only. So there are many news readers and importance has shifted to debates and anchors and editors.

    But in this fashion too there is one channel in Tamil namely Polimer news they give importance to news reading and famous personalities are Ranjith and velraj. Even this style of news reading has been taken by one parent and they came up with their son with different roles of men and women and he read news and the video has been come in you tube which went viral and he became popular by choosing him advertisement and movie too and his name is Rithvik.

    There has been a lot of changes in the past decades in the way news is delivered in TV media. Today delivering news is a matter of creating excitement and thrill in the TV viewers. For achieving that the newsreaders will adopt mannerism suiting to that job.
    Another thing is that the news coverage is also changed with time. Earlier main items of national interests were presented by the newsreader and other things people came to know from the newspaper in print form. Today so many small news items are presented in a big speed and within minutes so many headings are bombarded on the viewers.
    Knowledge is power.

    Before Doordarshan, I used to hear the news on All India Radio. All India Radio, Vijayawada used to broadcast national news separately and regional news separately. Addanki Mannar was reading Telugu national news and his pronunciation was excellent. Many mimicry artists used to mimic his voice. Later DD started Telugu news daily two times. One Mr Santi Swaroop was a very famous newsreader and he used to present news very nicely. I used to hear news on DD without missing it. Those days newsreaders are very special and we used to feel happy to hear their voices.
    Now many news channels and continuous news only. So there is no separate identity for news readers. In Telugu, Etv is very famous. This channel airs news for half an hour once in the morning and once in the evening and the programme is much better and on par with the DD news programme. Generally, at the night at 9 PM, this channel will air news for 30 minutes.

    Yes @Dr.Rao I thought of including AIR news announcement and would like to share one famous personality of tamil from Delhi Akash vani Saroj Narayanswmay, but here the category is limited with television I have not included. Thanks for sharing your info.

    Yes @Umesh even the reading style changed from paper to digital. Still I remember news reader fetching papers from side of the table where news editor passing the news and start reading.

    During my school days, we were asked to write a summary in a special notebook after watching news channel and reading newspaper. That's how I inculcated the habit of reading newspaper, I enjoyed doing that as part of my homework.

    But now, you loose all your sanity watching any news show, it has turned into entertainment where instead of news drama enfolds. They are running the channel to please the advertisers and that could be anyone.

    Earlier, it was such graceful news reading by the news anchor, they would deliver the news rather than inject their own drama and agenda. Some debate shows are like circus.

    Yes @Neethu thank you for your input. I remember this news reading when i instructed and assisted my students in those days and for that even teachers has to prepare/do home work.

    Those days news readers in AIR or DD used to have an identity. People used to say the name of the newsreader by hearing the voice of the newsreader. But now news and newsreaders are not having any identity and lost their importance due to many 24 X 7 news channels.
