Love playing Holi? Here's a chance to write something creative with colours! Be quick, though - entries should be submitted no later than 10 a.m. tomorrow.
  • Category: Festivals

A fun time with colours- let's play Holi!

Let's have some fun today to celebrate Holi, the festival of colours. Do you remember the childhood game 'Froggy, Froggy, may we cross your Golden River'? The person chosen as Froggy had to name a colour that the other kids had to find around them and hold on to to be allowed the cross the 'river'. Those who did not have the colour could cross but not get caught in doing so, and, if caught, would help the Froggy to catch the others. The last kid would be the winner. Let us play something similar today.

What you have to do: Submit a creative write-up that starts with a colour and ends with the same. That is, the first and last words should be the same colour. You can include any one other colour, too, in the text. It could be a general write-up or a short story or even a poem. Just keep it concise. Each member can submit a maximum of two entries. The entry should be submitted in a response to this thread only.

The rules: Just one - Keep it concise and not too lengthy, adhering to forum posting guidelines.

The rewards: There are no prizes as such, as this is just something fun. However, all quality entries will be awarded enhanced points and cash credits up to a maximum of 20, and more than one entry may be awarded the same cc.

The challenge: An entry which picks up the colour from the previous entry may be considered for bonus points and cc. For example, if I write a short story with the colour lavender, and you write a sequel with the same colour, you may be given the bonus if it is a good sequel. Or if somebody submits a general writeup on the colour blue and you write something about the same colour which is not similar, but a total contrast to what was stated in the earlier entry, then you may be entitled to the bonus. [That is why two entries are allowed- you can write your own individual one, and pick up somebody else's entry as well to continue on it.]

While multiple entries with the same colour are fine, let's try to make the thread colourful!

Closing date and time: 8th March 2023, 11 a.m. Have fun!

Green trees and some dry bushes were scattered around when Rajan reached the spot along with his friends. A few days back they planned to visit the nearby hillocks for a picnic. Three of them Subhash, Dilip, and Manoj had visited that place earlier and were insisting to go there. Moreover, it was hardly 4-5 Km from their houses and they could just go their on their bicycles. There were some holidays during the Holi festival and they kept some snacks and water and other things in their backpacks and left their houses early in the morning and soon formed a group and proceeded to the foot of the hillocks.
These hillocks were at the junction of the far away hills and their town and a favourite picnic place. They parked their bicycles and then started climbing up. It was easy as the slope was comfortable and after 10 - 15 minutes they reached the spot - a flat place where a good number of trees were there and they sat under a tree and enjoyed the pleasant weather and clean air.
A part of the town was now visible from this place and it was a picturesque landscape extending in all directions.
"Did you people observe that there are so many trees here but near the road the point from where we climbed up there is a big deserted patch and no greenery", Manoj told in a concerned voice.
They all agreed that a big dry patch was there.
They played games, ate the snacks they brought with them and had a good fun and by noon time they started walking back to the base.
While picking their bicycles Dilip exclaimed, "Can't we do something for this dry patch?"
    Everyone stared at him.
Dilip continued, "I mean a group of students sponsored by our school can volunteer here for plantation."
Everyone liked the idea and decided that they will tell this to their teachers in the school to make attempts to try to make this patch green.

Green fields all around. Gardens of various fruits and flowers. Canals flow on both sides of the roads. Black road in between. Trees on both sides of the road. Even in hot summer, the breeze from these trees will give us refreshing air. This is the atmosphere Ram, always loves and he never misses any chance to visit such places.

Ram's friend's son is getting married. Ram received the invitation. The marriage is in Konaseema of Andhra Pradesh. Konaseema is a place where you will find such greenery. So Ram immediately decided to attend that function with his wife. His wife also loves such environment. So they wanted to spend one or two days more in that place and visit some places around.

They attended the marriage. His friend arranged a good place for them to stay. They enjoyed the fields around that area. They have plenty of tender coconut water and they had boating experience on the River Godavari. After that, they visited the famous Siva temple in a nearby place. They visited the Jaganmohini Kesavaswamy temple and other important places.

They started back after spending a good time there. His friend offered them new clothes, sweets and mangoes. They both like green very much and their favourite colour is nothing but green.

Green fields stretch out before my eyes
Blue skies above them, vast and wide
A scene of peace, a place of rest
Where nature's beauty is at its best

The trees sway gently in the breeze
Their leaves a shade of emerald green
And in the distance, mountains rise
Their peaks obscured by misty skies

As I wander through this verdant scene
I'm filled with a sense of calm and peace
The world seems right, the air is clean
And all around me, the field is green.

Service to mankind is service to God.

Green colour is the symbol of prosperity. We were planning to celebrate the theme for Holi. So, I put my view that we should celebrate the Holi this year with this theme Green. All agreed with my view. The theme was selected. A little 5-year-old boy of my brother who was in LKG told us why not use two more colours. We all suddenly saw him. He told that we should also use White and saffron colours as a theme. He told that his madam taught him yesterday that our national flag has three colours; saffron, white and green. He suggested that the theme should be according to our national flag. We all accepted his suggestion. We were happy that a 5-year-old little boy has suggested us a very good idea.

All the decorations, clothes, and sweets were according to the theme. The three colours of the national flag also make us courageous and make our Holi a special event. We all enjoyed the Holi. But the little boy was more excited that he had suggested us two more colours as a theme instead of a single colour green.

Black is a unique colour. Many people believe that it symbolises confidence and strength. In psychology black colour is considered a symbol of mystery, power, elegance, and sophistication. At the same time it is also related to emotions such as sadness and anger.
In fashion industry black colour is very important and time to time it envelopes the high society and fashion freaks alike.
In the legal world black is a dress of lawyers. In educational institutes also black gowns are used during degree functions.
Scientifically speaking black colour is a very special colour because when we see an object having black colour then it means that it is not reflecting any light to us and that is why we perceive it as black. In other words we can also say that it is absorbing all the lights that is falling on it.
There are many colours around but the most amazing one is black.

Festivals are so designed to celebrate without any bias of caste /status and by forgetting our internal ego/worry etc., but with joy. Holi is celebrated with colors as mentally different colored people celebrating with joy. On the day of festivals we all forget our daily routine worries, celebrate with all family members and friends. Wishing a Happy Holi to all.

For me blue colour always fascinates me since it offers tranquility, peace and restore concentration to start a new venture. Whenever I see the blue sky devoid of clouds and fogs, I get total calmness.
However, yesterday proved to be a very special day to me when my friend suddenly dropped in my residence along with his wife and his single child to spend vacation for Holi. It was really an exciting moment for me to have such an association. The blue eyed boy for his parent was curious, intelligent and talkative. I made a query how he likes the festival of colours- the Holi.
With his innocence gesture, he replied that he was very much fascinated with the colour of blue providing him the unique sense of internal peace which always motivate him to follow the path of peace and stability. He showed all his texts books and copies wrapped with the cover of blue cover and on that cover, there was a white sticker in which his name appeared in the blue ink.
The more he explained the characteristics of blue colour more I became impressed with his style of expression. It was an unforgettable moment for me to have got such a company where my memory went back to my old days reminding of my school mate of similar nature supporting blue colour similar to this boy advocating for blue colour.

Scarlett was a little girl who had a fiery little spirit and a love for adventure. She was always on the lookout for something new and exciting to do, much to the annoyance of her parents. They could never hold her within the boundaries of their home.

One day, while exploring the forest, she stumbled upon a mysterious hidden cave. Although, she passed through the forest many times before, she never came across this cave. The entrance was covered with thick vines and the air smelled of damp earth and moss.

Without a second thought, she entered the dark cave. As she ventured farther into it, she noticed a ray of light which illuminated the end of the passageway. Without any hesitation, she ran towards the light.

She was out of breath by the time she reached the source, all the while she didn't realize, how much time has passed by. She walked right through the bright light and at the end of the source, she saw a breathtaking sight. It was as if she had stumbled upon a secret world, a world which was hidden from the sight of human being.

For hours, she wandered in this wonder land, exploring the land. She looked in awe at the sky, only to realize that she was nearing the sunset and her parents would be worried at home. She found her way back to the entrance of the cave and hurried back home. To her surprise, her parents didn't notice her absence at all. She went to her mom, with hungry eyes, she asked her if the dinner was ready. Her mom, surprised, asked her, "You just had your breakfast 15 min back, the day has just started, we still have time for dinner, now go and enjoy your day, Scarlett!"

[Best entry- a good take on the scarlet colour]

    Black forest cake
    Queen of desserts
    Desire of everyone
    Dark all over,
    But dense looking
    And creamy as
    White as snow
    Flavor of chocolate
    Layered inside
    And spongy with
    Colorful berries
    And cherries
    Tasty to make
    My mouth watery
    Yummy cake color in black

    Blue that shades the ocean
    None dives with precaution
    Deep down into crystal waves
    Sands still around the bays
    Winds shatter to rouse
    The seagulls that drowse
    But fishes swim miles,
    And jump into high skies
    The beauty that tucked in
    Seems invisible to mean
    Though dangerous at times
Not at all me ever minds
    With secrets underneath
What I miss until last breathe
Still to be lost in the glory
    With unanswered query
    How does the ocean suppose
To have a lovely shade of blue!!

Green baby plant has blinked me when I return from my home town to my place of accommodation where I work.

My place is in Kerala border. There are many Malayalam speakers. I felt it was smiling at me and the structure of the plant is really very nice. When I enquired, people around said that someone had put a whole of elephant yam when house keeping people came to collect garbage. So a person took it and planted it in the ground as this is very famous in Kerala where as I am seeing for the first time and said that he had planted it ten days ago and he asked if it is okay to plant there as that space is allotted for me near my stay of place.

What a miracle, I can't tell how happy I am as I am having very much fond of the taste in any recipe.

From now on I have decided to take care of the plant to look very much green.

Yellow recipes I have shared in ISC as articles. not only yellow even some other colours too.

The first article(which is not available now) I shared was recipe of Butter milk kolambu with five different colours. This dish is mostly with south India that is commonly with yellow colour formed by turmeric powder which has the quality of keeping greenness in vegetables. The same kolambu will be white if green chillies seeds only used, it will be green if coriander leaves is added while smashing. It will be red if red chillies are used in place of green chillies.

Another one based on yellow was recipe of Ra(w) mellow vegetable sabji for Roti (this article is also not available now but thanks its draft version is available ) with Ingredients, Vegetables Onion, Potato, green peapod, Cabbage, Carrot, Beans, capsicum, Garlic flakes, ginger, Tomato, coriander leaves. And SpicesTurmeric powder, garam masala powder, corn flour(or Barley powder), red chilly powder, salt, oil and mustard seeds.

The title I have given is to highlight the Ra(w) mellow, the colour to be Raw Yellow.

Blue is puzzling. Surabhi's parents became worried when they noticed the bluish tinge on her body. They immediately took her to a nearby hospital. She was not perturbed and felt happy to be in the hospital, while her parents were very concerned.

In the Emergency ward, a junior doctor checked Surabhi and felt everything was fine with her. He asked the nurse to check her oxygen level, which was perfect. Then, how could she turn blue? It disturbed the doctor while Surabhi had a little smile on her face, which her father noticed. He immediately realised that his naughty daughter had played some prank. On the other hand, the junior doctor requested his senior to come and see the visit. Dr Shekhar came running, and the moment he entered the Emergency Ward and glanced at the patient, he understood the whole matter.

The senior doctor checked her pulse and asked the nurse to prepare for an immediate operation as the patient seemed to sink due to the lack of oxygen. Immediately, Surabhi got up and confessed that she used blue eye shadow to colour her skin. She wanted to meet Shekhar as he avoided her because of some misunderstanding. Everyone present there looked at Surabhi and nodded in amazement. Life became pink by ruling out the dreaded blue.

Red is a beautiful colour, isn't it so? Human life is full of glorious moments, tumultuous, sometimes very easygoing and sometimes very dull too. The most important part of our lives is we all get attached to one thread called blood which is a vibrant red.

During someone's health emergency, even an unknown person's blood saves a patient's life. So, life can remain active only through the help of blood because anaemic persons cannot remain active. So to be alive, one must depend upon blood, so eating right, exercising and love for life are the essential elements. Keep going with pure blood that's deep red.

Red and Blue-green colour of the veins is a wonder for the students. I was taking a class of science in middle standard. The teacher of science was on sick leave. So, as a principal, I decided to continue the class and revise the important topic until the teacher returned to school.

I ask the students which topic they want to revise. The whole class told me to revise blood. I am taking the class suddenly a student asked me if the colour of blood is red, then why do we see the colour of vessel blue-green?

I answered that there are two types of vessels in the body artery and veins. Artery contains pure (oxygenated) blood hence it is red. But veins contain impure blood hence it is blue-green in colour.

A student said there are many people who are suffering from anaemia in nearby areas. How can we help them?

students of the class suggested visiting the village and supplying the food items which are rich in iron.

The next day we visited the village with different fruits, eggs, food packets, etc. Students distributed these items to the villagers. They were excited and enjoyed the whole day with nature.

They also played Holi with the villagers. They enjoyed the Holi and use only three colours to celebrate Holi which were green, blue and red.

    Honesty is the best policy.
