    How to set SMART goal?

    Whenever we want to do work we should do the planning. But before planning, we have to set up a SMART goal. Do you know the meaning of a smart goal?

    S = Specific
    M = Measurable
    A = Achievable
    R = Relevant
    T = Time bounded

    It means a goal should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bounded. Do you set a smark goal before doing a work?

    Many people go ahead with a specific goal fixed by them or by somebody else. When we work in a corporate every year each employee will be asked to fix their KRAs. KRA means Key result areas. Every person will discuss with his boss and make his own KRAs and get them approved by the HOD and the same will be reviewed during the year at regular intervals to see that we are progressing in the way it was planned and we will achieve our goal. Basing the percentage achievement of our performance will be evaluated and suitably rewarded. A SMART goal is also something similar to that I think.
    A goal should be always realistic but should not be easily achievable. The individual should stretch a little to reach the goal. Some people fix goals which can be achieved easily. That can be regarded as cheating themselves. A goal should be achievable but not very easily achievable.

    SMART is a structured and managerial method of setting our goals and then pursue them with commensurate hard work. It is obvious that for fixing the goals we must have capabilities to do it. If we have the potential to carry out a task then only we can set the goals proportionate to it.
    The most important part in the goal setting exercise is not only the review of our inner strength and other abilities but also the skill and knowledge for executing that task physically.
    Another aspect in this matter is about the circumstances and surroundings in which we are going to implement that project or scheme. If the situation is conducive to good execution then the perceived goals could be achieved.

    Knowledge is power.
