    Be cautious while studying history

History is a great subject and I especially want to read Indian history. But in my opinion, while studying or reading history we should be cautious. Since the opinions of the author are also included in his book. We can say that author is impartial. We have seen that authors have praised the king, their activities, etc in their history books.

Fortunate or unfortunately the recent syllabuses cover only colonial/British rule only and prior to that covers only in the respective literature to some extent and also in fiction to some extent. I can quote some in my region say in Tamil recently pooniyin selvan as a pan india film shown about Chola kings who ruled this area then. Likewise earlier too many Tamil fictional stories and movies covered many kings rule but is taken only to the Tamil audience.

History should be written in an unbiased way. What happened exactly should be written. But unfortunately in our country history starts from the British ruling time. Even many heroes who died for the freedom of the country will never find a place in the history books meant for students to read in schools and colleges. That is why we all fail to understand the actual history but a written history only.
Fortunately, because of the internet and many search engines, many of us are able to know about many unsung heroes. There are some historical movies. But they also add some content to make their movie a success but never give importance to presenting actual happenings.
Indian history should be rewritten giving all the facts about the Indian Kings who ruled our country before the freedom fight and about the freedom struggle also.

Any historical account which does not contain the description and characteristics of the local communities and their traditions is a biased history. Invaders will come and try to supress the gullible people and cover the local culture and traditions under their umbrella but historian should see through it and present the facts in the historical descriptions. Unbiased and correct history will give the correct picture of that time.
It is obvious that we should read the history books with open mind and cross check the information from other sources.

    Knowledge is power.

Recently, we discussed how studying history benefits us and there is no doubt that knowing the history of anything is always important and helps us with our plan of action for today.

But how to remain cautious while studying history? Views of the author can be there in some history books while some other books may have different views because the author is different. The thing is to know the facts without any views and for that, one has to search a lot of references to know the truth. Since what has happened in the past is notified in the history book there is no chance for the reader to go back to the past and one has to rely on the references of others during that period. Finding the facts may be a tedious task and with more discoveries and references new facts can emerge. Rather than depending on a single history book for any topic, it is always better to consult a couple of books and then analyze them to make a decision.

Welcoming the author on his interest to study History. Once, former Prince Charles of England, was asked by press personnel about his foreign countries visit. He replied, "first of all I wish to see all places of our Country well and then I can visit other countries". This way, he pointed out that one should know first about his country well.
For this, I would like to suggest History of India by Mahajan, an eminent author, whose books are used during our college time. Though I have had no subject in my BCOM, I read it for my brother who did his BA economics and fell sick during the examination. The author is right in pointing out the self ideas/opinions on the history is being done by the present political based scholars. For this we can refer old authors' books which we can get our Government Public Libraries.
