Importance of MDM in Government education system

MDM, or the Mid-Day Meal scheme, is an important initiative by the government of India to provide nutritious meals to school-going children from economically weaker sections of society. The scheme was launched in 1995 as a centrally-sponsored program, and its objective is to improve the nutritional status of children and encourage school enrollment, attendance, and retention. This helps in reducing the dropout rate and ensures that children complete their education.

Is this type of scheme really helpful to develop the education of any country?

The Mid Day Meal scheme is an excellent initiative. Many State Governments and some charitable institutes run this program. Malnutrition in children is a big problem in many developing countries. This initiative definitely improves the enrolment and attendance in the schools. Poor parents send their children to schools to get a free nutritious meal for their children. When children attend school, learning takes place. This Mid Day Meal scheme is good for the children as they get one nutritious meal as well as education.

Yes, I agree with the author that the mid-day meal is a very important initiative by government of India. It will provide nutrition to the children of villages where malnutrition is a very big problem. The menu of Mid day meal is also prepared according to nutritional value.

Mid day meal is a very popular scheme in our country and the aim of this scheme is basically to provide nutritive food to the poor children. But there is no demarcation between poor and rich students in the school and everyone is given that meal in recess time.
So, it is obvious that some poor students due to the lure of mid day meal might get attracted to the school and may get interest towards the studies.
It can be said that this is an attempt to attract the poor students to schools and that is the only thing that the scheme does. Sometimes small efforts also mean much.

Yes, schemes like the Mid-Day Meal program can be very helpful in developing the education of a country, especially for children from economically weaker sections of society. The provision of a nutritious meal during school hours ensures that children attend school regularly and are not forced to drop out due to hunger or lack of food at home. It also helps in improving the health and nutritional status of children, which is crucial for their overall development. I think (not sure) the scheme was piloted by Government of Tamilnadu by Ex. Cheif Minister Smt. Jayalaliltha.

Furthermore, when children attend school regularly, they have better opportunities to learn and acquire knowledge, which is essential for their future prospects. By providing access to education and nutrition, the Mid-Day Meal scheme can contribute towards breaking the cycle of poverty, and help in building a better future for the country.

The program has been successful in improving school enrolment, attendance, and retention rates in India, which has in turn led to an increase in literacy levels. Therefore, such schemes can be a powerful tool in promoting education and reducing poverty in any country. However, India moving to Developed status from Developing, there should be more and more innovative schemes to attract students to Government schools.

Mid day meal is being provided in the school due to growth of the students in the different classes and the main moto of the government is to provide nutrients to the kids belonging to poor families. However, the mid day meal is not only confined to only poor children but the same facility is extended to all children attending the school.
This facility provides two purposes- the first being the provision of wholesome meal and secondly the quality education imparted by the competent teachers. We need to appreciate the efforts of the government in the direction of strengthening the education system among the non privileged classes.

I agree entirely with the author that such schemes should be promoted as it gives parents an incentive to send their children to school in poor families. Children too tempted by good foods try to pass the classes. But there is a need for some modification in this scheme so that the large number of kids begging on the road sides in urban spaces can also be included in such schemes. Many such kids who in some manner get indulged in begging don't want don't realise the value of education. Despite knowing they can get both food and education at school, they avoid school; these schemes need to put some emphasises on these children too. Delhi government has done amazing work in such government schools; these schools have wonderful infrastructure, facilities and food despite that you will find so many kids begging on the roads of Delhi- as these kids are habitual of eating tasty street food given by many new people visiting there and often don't want to stay in tough supervision of teachers ins schools something needs to be done for them too.

Mid Day Meals scheme is a good initiative and it will encourage children to attend school without fail. Especially, poor people will see that their children will go to school. When children spend some time in school they may have some chance to learn also. So we should appreciate the governments for implementing such initiatives.
But of late, in some states, we are seeing a big mess in the scheme. Mismanagement is also taking place. In some schools, I heard that there will be separate meals for teachers. Nowadays, in some states, third parties are hired for cooking and supplying food to the students. Here the food is not as per the standards and local political leaders will get involved in this and make money also. I heard.
Teachers should not get completely involved in such schemes and neglect teaching. There should be an administrative staff and they should take care of the implementation and execution of such schemes. Then education will not suffer.

TN was pioneer in this scheme introduced by Sj. K. Kamaraj and subsequently Sh.MGR again launched nutritious meal schemes and the scheme is followed by all CMs in TN and hence it is going on non stop till today for more than 45 years. Every CM introduced some improvement/change in the nutrition products and present CM added breakfast too.
