World Water Day - March 22 - "Be the Change You Want to See in the World"

    Ladies & Gentlemen,

World Water Day 2023 (United Nations (UN) initiative - Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6) was celebrated world wide on March 22, 2023. I was also one among the young dignitaries who was invited for the function conducted by Govt. of Kerala. So let us have some fruitful discussion regarding the following topics.

"What are some small actions we can take in our daily lives to conserve water and make a positive impact on the environment?"

Some possible discussion points for this thread could include:

    1. Tips for reducing water usage at home, such as taking shorter showers, fixing leaky taps, and using a broom instead of a hose to clean outdoor spaces.

    2. Ideas for minimizing water waste in the workplace, such as turning off taps when not in use, using recycled water for certain tasks, and installing water-efficient appliances and fixtures.

    3. Suggestions for ways to raise awareness about water conservation and encourage others to join in, such as hosting educational events, participating in community clean-up efforts, and sharing information on social media.

    4. Success stories or challenges related to water conservation efforts, both on an individual and community level, and strategies for overcoming obstacles and making a real difference.

    5. Role of new technologies like IOT in water conservation etc.

    6. Your opinion on this years theme - "Be the Change You Want to See in the World"

    7. What is the bird in the official picture of UN? What is its significance.

A nice post by the author. Water is a precious commodity. It is available to us in many forms and there is a lot of water present in the oceans which are covering almost 70% of the Earth surface. Unfortunately, this water is having a high quantity of dissolved salts and it cannot be directly used for drinking purposes. For our drinking requirement we look towards the rivers, springs, lakes, ponds, underground water and sources like that. These sources are diminishing due to various reasons and there is an acute need of conserving water.
Every citizen has to understand the importance of the water in our lives and should adhere to the conservation of it through minimising its use and cooperating in measures to store it for longer times in natural habitats. In some of the places in our country good efforts are being done to recreate the old lakes and ponds which due to the rampant construction industry were dumped with concrete material and other waste from the construction industry.
Rainwater harvesting is one area that is very promising and if that is taken up on the large scale we can to some extent increase the level of underground water.
Government is making many schemes for making water available to the people and its conservation but every citizen has to cooperate and add efforts from ones side for conservation of water.

    Knowledge is power.

Water conservation is very necessary if want to gift it to the next generation. We live on a unique planet which is also called the blue planet due to the presence of water. But due to our activities, there is a scarcity of water and we should conserve them.

In school education, it is a part of the syllabus in almost all the classes from 3 to 10 but it is only a formality. We should take serious action to conserve it. It is a necessity of the present day.

    Honesty is the best policy.

No water on the earth, no life. Water is very important. About 70% of the earth is covered with water. But many of us will be facing heavy water shortage. So water conservation is very important. One should use a minimum quantity of water and see that there is no wastage. Otherwise, we will run out of water oneday.
In our houses, we require water for almost all activities. Reusing and recycling water is very important. These days people use showers for their baths. When we use a shower we don't know how much water we are using for our bath. So instead of using a shower if we use a bucket and a mug, we can understand how much water we are using and we can minimise the consumption for our bath.
Rainwater harvesting is very important. It will be useful to maintain the groundwater level. In many cities, the government is asking the apartment constructor to provide space for making the pit for water harvesting. Reusing waste water from RO plants or using Zero waste water from RO plants in the house will help us in reducing our water consumption.
As long as we have water we will not understand the value of water.

Time ahead is really difficult with respect to management of water if the people don't understand its importance in managing the same effectively. This has become all the more necessary due to unmanageable population growth in the upcoming time.
Hence awareness must be made at all levels to make the people conscious of its utilisation in the prudent ways. Hence school management has crucial roles to make the students aware how water can be used effectively in our daily activities and these kids will not only adhere to its economic use but they would make pressure to their families abiding by this plan.
Rainwater harvesting is an important component where we could save water by recycling the same.Government departments should display advertisements in the form of banners, through the news paper and other media requesting people to conserve water judgiciously.

Water conservation is an important aspect of sustainable living, as it helps us preserve a precious natural resource and reduce our environmental impact. Don't leave the tap running when brushing your teeth, shaving, or washing your hands. This can save a significant amount of water over timWater your plants early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation, and avoid over-watering by using a watering can instead of a hosDishwashers are more water-efficient than hand washing, as they use less water per dish. Just make sure to only run the dishwasher when it's full.
Choose water-efficient appliances: When purchasing new appliances, look for models that are certified as water-efficient by organizations . Collecting rainwater in a barrel or other container can be a great way to reduce your reliance on municipal water sources.Low-flow toilets use less water per flush than traditional toilets, making them a more water-efficient option.Avoid watering your lawn during the hottest part of the day, and use a broom instead of a hose to clean outdoor spaces.
