Did you ever learn a computer programming language?

Long back when computer languages like Basic, Fortran, COBOL, etc were introduced then there was a great thrill in learning them. Not only science students but arts students also tried to learn some of those languages because after that they were able to do certain tasks which otherwise were very repetitive, complex, and difficult.
In the year 1984, I got first opportunity to work on a PC and learn a programming language. I got a book on 'Basic' programming language in which every line had a line number and we could use that numer anywhere in the code to reference it.
Basic was a quite easy programming language to learn and within a few days I started writing small programs in it and when I saw the results I was very much satisfied that I was also able to write and run a computer program. That time what we did was very fundamental programming and from today's coding standards that was the alphabet of computer programming area.
Did you ever learn a computer programming language? How did you feel when you run the first program and it gave the desired results? Please share.

Aapakusam - 'Aarambippor Palanokku Kuriyeettu Sanketam'. this is the acronym given by the great author Sujatha in Tamil for the acronym of BASIC language. So whenever I see this language it reminds of this. Yes in the middle 80s these are popular and should learn if one has to work in computers. Tha famous syntax is sort and this basic thing is used in any language even now in java as quicksort bubble sort etc.,

I was taught COBAL and Basic language in a training programme conducted in our office for training the executives of our company in PC and Laptop operations. We used to write small programmes using a spreadsheet. But later on, I never learned anything more than this. But I am using the computer for the last 30 years.

My knowledge is only limited to some basics in the languages like Basic, Fortran and Pascal. So the information that Basic language related ideas are even used in java as quicksort bubble sort etc is an interesting point for me to note.

Computer languages are necessary for making programmes and web design. I tried to learn C, C++, and Java but couldn't complete the course. My elder child is learning C++ from Coding Ninja and my younger child is learning Python from a online platform Udemy.

Thanks for your quick response. As I belong to the era of Basic, Fortran, COBOL, Pascal etc, I always wondered what Java, PHP, C, Ruby, HTML etc meant.
That is why many of my timers feel difficulty in creating HTML links and other such tasks.
