Why some people acquire knowledge or attend courses even after their active work life?

It is very common today to acquire additional qualifications after completing ones education and also during the job for making a career and deciding to switch to other better job if such an opportunity exists. Due to the advancements in so many areas it has become necessary for the professionals to acquire additional latest skills and learning for coping up with the competitive and tough business environment.
But when a person is retired from active work life and is supposed to be taking rest then also there are a few people who are acquiring some qualifications as per their interest and curious mindset. What is the purpose of acquiring such courses or trainings especially in the online, many of which are free also? Have you come across such cases? What are your views on that?

Though retirement life means the break of the regular assignments and for many people they would enjoy new phase with a greater excitement initially but after sometime, they might loose the charm of meeting of the visitors since that might not offer them relaxation any more.
The situation might be comfortable with the acquisition of certain skills which fascinated them earlier during the pre retirement days.
This could certain subjects included in their syllabus of any level or some latest languages in the computers such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, Oracle etc. By switching over this area, they will hardly get bored and more they find interest in their chosen areas, more they will have passion to grasp the same. At least, they could acquire skills in the new domain and such a hobby might be highly satisfying.

It all depends on the interest of the individual. There is no age limit for learning.
My sister is a MA BEd and worked as a Telugu teacher. She took voluntary retirement in her 50th year as her husband has moved from that place. Now she crossed her 60th year. But she never stopped learning. She did her MA in Hindi and Sanskrit in her 58th year and did her MEd in her 60th year. In addition to that she is attending online certification courses and learning reading, writing and speaking Sanskrit. Like this, there may be some people who wanted to learn something or another always. We heard a lady from Kerala attended the 10th examination and passed in her 90s.
Studying and learning and obtaining degrees and certificates are not just for obtaining a job or for earning money. It will be good to have a quality life and to become more humane also. Online classes and distance modes of education improved the chances of learning for aged people also.

'Knowledge is power'. Learning anything thing new to gain knowledge should not have any barriers. Free courses conducted online are a boon for senior citizens who are unable to attend classes physically. Further, the mind gets alert and helps people to stay away from overthinking and getting stressed.
If I get an opportunity to improve my writing and communicative skills further, I would surely go for it. There is no end to learning. Many people learn many things on Youtube.

    Umesh Ji,

Yes, I have come across many retired individuals who continue to acquire new skills and knowledge through online courses and trainings. The purpose of acquiring such courses could be several, such as:

Personal growth: Many retired individuals have a thirst for knowledge and a desire to learn new things. They may take up courses in subjects that interest them or explore new areas of learning for personal growth.

Staying mentally active: Learning new things can help keep the mind sharp and active, which is important for overall health and well-being.

Social interaction: Online courses and trainings can provide an opportunity to connect with other like-minded individuals who share similar interests.

Preparing for second career: Some retired individuals may use online courses and trainings to acquire skills that they can use in a second career or for starting their own business.

Fulfilling unmet aspirations: Some retired individuals may have unfulfilled aspirations from their working years, and taking online courses and trainings can help them fulfil those aspirations.

I think it's great that retired individuals are taking advantage of the many opportunities available today to continue learning and growing. It's a testament to their curiosity and willingness to explore new things, and it's also a positive trend for society as a whole.

    regards

I also agree that sometimes learning is just a pleasure whatever the age might be.
    Knowledge is power.

Passion is the answer. People have their own passions. Many times it defies logic and purpose.
I like to keep on enhancing my knowledge. I feel myself as 'Jack of all trades, but master of none'.
I know that no one bothers about my knowledge and sometimes I rue myself what is the use of my spending time and money and having such knowledge. But I just cannot help in reading or viewing news and articles and analysis etc. I browse net and go on moving from one web link/web site to another, one after another, trying to gather information and knowledge.
The question remains why so. Answer remains same -just passion-
