Why are today's kids not willing to go to school?

If you remember your good old days of your school, you can recall that many pupils were slapped, flogged by teachers but yet they enjoyed school.I even saw some students returning home smiling , mhaving fun even after being flogged. But kids of this generation are not willing to go to school the next day even if a teacher reprimends. Some kids are showing disinterest because they should write notes continuously for three to four periods. The students are so bored.

So what is the reason for such a major shift?

It is really a very interesting topic in connection with the apathy of the kids for not attending the schools. The kids feel isolated sometimes due to prevalence of strict discipline regimes for which they are not prepared. They are tuned to the friendly atmosphere of their residence where the parents take parts in each and every activities they are doing providing them the real comforts.
However, it would all depend upon the attitudes of the school managements. There are a lot of schools giving due importance of all round development of kids where every teacher would behave in a friendly manner winning the confidence of the child. Whatever is to be taught in class, they come well prepared making the lessons interesting. They would provide opportunities to ask questions at the end of their teachings so as to know their doubts. They sort it out amicably encouraging them to ask more in case of doubts.
To develop interest within the kid's mind is the foremost role of the school management and with sticking to this policy, they keep ahead themselves from others.
Treating every child understanding their psychology should be the main moto of the schools.

I immensely enjoyed going to school.

The main reason behind this cannot be disclosed in this platform. But some other reasons are playing with my friends, (positive/negative) interaction with classmates, to bunk school at least once in a month and visit favourite cinema-halls/watch football matches and occasionally getting doubts (in various subjects) cleared by friends who were better in studies.

In short, I was more comfortable in school than in our locality to carry out various activities which may not be very student-like.

I think this is mainly due to their attachment to smartphones, TVs and other electronic gadgets. They enjoy the fun of seeing the videos on their phones and they enjoy movies on TV. But in schools, these things are not possible. They have to spend time in the classroom hearing the lessons from teachers.
Another point is the pressure they get from their home front as well as from school to compete to score very high marks. Homework also may be heavy. In our days, that much pressure was not there and homework also was reasonable. In addition to the above these days competitive examinations and a coaching centre for those tests. This pressure may be making them averse to attending school.
Teachers and parents should understand these points and see that students will gain interest in their studies. Parents should see that children will not get addicted to these electronic items.

There are several reasons why kids these days may be less enthusiastic about going to school. One of the major reasons is the lack of engagement in traditional teaching methods. Many students find these methods to be boring and uninteresting, which can lead to disinterest and disengagement from the learning process.

To address this issue, teachers and schools need to incorporate more interactive and engaging teaching methods that cater to different learning styles. This can include the use of technology, group projects, and hands-on activities that allow students to learn in a more practical and engaging way. Teachers should also strive to create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning.

Another reason why kids may be less inclined to go to school is due to mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression. These issues can have a significant impact on a student's motivation to attend school and engage in the learning process.

To address this issue, schools should prioritize mental health support for students, such as providing access to counseling services and resources for managing stress and anxiety. Additionally, parents and caregivers should be encouraged to have open and supportive conversations with their children about their mental health and well-being.

Overall, it is essential to create a positive and supportive learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of students. By addressing the reasons why kids may not want to go to school and implementing effective solutions, we can help ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed academically and personally.

    Hi,
Like to know why my post #773008 deleted? I think nothing violated in that opinion. I gave my views as a parent?
Are parents opinion not matter? I find something messy going on here on ISC.
I did not get any info/feedback on deletion of my post.

The kind of thread it is, generally I don't think there will be any scope for violations (that are mentioned by Tony sir in the other thread). I think Geeta madam should be given a chance to edit her response before blatantly deleting her response and assigning -20 points.

I do not fully agree with the author. in my school, the students eagerly want to come to school. Even the students of pre primary schools, want to come to school on Sunday.

The main reasons for not going to school are different in different schools. Schools must have one or two periods of different activities and games daily for the students. These are really essential for the relaxation of the students. The teachers should be trained and should understand the psychology of the students.

    Honesty is the best policy.

Geeta (and Bhuvan note as well),

Yes, of course, your views as a parent are welcome. However, if you choose not to give original feedback and, instead, put in content that is to be seen elsewhere and/or use tools to create a response, a forum editor is correct in removing the content like it is done for other sections. Nothing messy about that! Do be spontaneous and original.

Also, note that no feedback is given for reasons for deleting forum responses.

We cannot generalize that today's kids are not interested to go to school. Even in earlier times, some students were reluctant in going to school and their parents forced them to go to school and attend their studies.
I remember when I was in my class 12 then one of the kids in our locality had this problem and just at the time of going to school in the morning he used to complain of stomach pain or some other problem. The parents sometimes thought that it was genuine and told him not to go to school. But within 10 - 15 minutes he used to tell them that there was no problem and wanted to go out and play.
One of the relatives suggested to the parents that they had to force the kid and when they did so 2-3 times regularly the kid stopped making excuses.

I wish to drag the thoughts of the author to old days school life. In all days even now and then the kids are struggling to go to the schools. This is not on the fear of teachers' slapping or strictness. We can see in houses many kids or small children do not easily go in the hands of visitors or other relatives when they visit our house as it is told that they are fearing on new face. Similarly, the children are accustomed to stay in the house with mother, brothers and sisters and when we put them in school they feel the isolation from the house and persons therein. Though they struggle to go to the school for some days in the beginning it would become alright in due course.
In some houses the elder children are when going to school the kids do not make any problem but go with brothers and or sisters. When I was in fifth standard, my last brother was admitted in first standard at the same school. He without making any problem came to school with me but once entered into the school, he made problem that he should sit with me in fifth standard and refuse to go to his first standard. Then the school HM and teachers (as my grand father was known person to the school personnel well, we got some influence) convinced my brother and made him to sit in the class.

There are many possible reasons why some kids today are not willing to go to school. One major factor could be the changing nature of education, with traditional classroom-based learning not always being well-suited to the needs and interests of modern students. Many kids may also find the academic pressures of school to be overwhelming, particularly if they struggle with certain subjects or feel unsupported by their teachers. Other factors that can impact student motivation and engagement include bullying, social anxiety, family stress, and mental health issues. It is important for educators, parents, and policymakers to work together to address these issues and create more inclusive and supportive learning environments for all students.
