Should parents take interest in the syllabus and study patterns of their children?

Many parents do not take any interest in the syllabus and subjects that their children are studying in the school. At the most they will arrange some tuition for them or send them for a coaching class and that is what they think is the best from their sides.
Should not the parents find out some time in seriously going through the syllabus of the courses of their children and compare it with their school times and if possible try to understand the new things themselves before explaining to the children.
Parents might say that they cannot afford time for such things and students should do their studies independently.
What is your view about it? Should not the parents take interest in the syllabus and study patterns of their children? Please share your views.

It is really a worthwhile posting from the side of the author. They should definitely take interest in the affairs of their children in relation to their studies.By doing so, at least the kids would realise that they are under the vigilance of their parents. Hence they would be more cautious and attentive to their ongoing studies. This might be one of the plus points of the close - observation of parents and preparing for their upcoming examinations will definitely improve due to frequent interventions of parents in improving their ways.
There are parents who go deeper by going through the syllabus and might suggest some means how best they can write down appropriate answers for the questions set by examiners. At least the kids would not think that they are direction less and there is one closely observing their activities for their improved performance. That is enough to create a right momentum in their on going studies.

It is always better if the parents follow their children closely in their studies. What is the syllabus? What is the pattern of teaching? Parents should see such things also and try to make their children concentrate more on their weak areas. Many times my parents used to see my notebooks and used to ask about the lessons that were being taught at that particular time and also used to ask questions from that lesson. My father was known to many of my teachers and he used to contact them and ask them about our performance.
Another point in my case is my uncle was a teacher at the same school where I was studying. So he was getting first-hand information from the school teachers. He used to covey the same to my father. So we used to be very cautious. Sometimes, my father used to ask me to write the answers for the questions given in the examination and he used to correct them also.

It is interesting thought to dwell upon, in this era of smart gadgets no one thinks to learn much after a certain point or aim like job, position and work related because everything is available at the tips of finger. Parents too think it is easy to google everything on the spot rather than learning what their children are studying. I believe parents should know about the syllabus and subjects of a kid- it not only makes kid feel proud on their parents but also give them emotional support and keeps their mental health in check because they feel relevant. It is very important for parents to make the children feel valued. A neglected child often goes through depression, anxiety and wrong habits specially in this era when everyone is so busy with their work and end up seeking emotional support from the means that often leads to self destruction. By being aware of what their children are studying learning and gaining in school parents not only keeps themselves updated but also can keep a tab on the mental health of a child without being too much nosy.

It is an interesting topic highlighting the importance if parents in educating the child. Only parents can identify learning pattern of their children. So they should spend time with kids. They have observed and also nurtured their kids from infancy. Some characteristics are inherited from parents and forefathers and hence they can know their child best.

If they are too busy they may send children to tuition classes but should inform the tutor in detail about their kids. The tutor should understand the learning pattern of the kid before teaching.
