Jio phone is just like an old Nokia multimedia phone with internet access. There is not much difference and people are using it because it is cheaper than smartphones. Once people get used to the internet they will buy a smartphone later. Many people in rural India are still using feature phones that cost just 1000 rupees for calling purposes only. They don't have any idea of the Internet which is the reason they use such phones. Mainly people who belong to rural areas have such phones.

I have visited rural areas and the mobile shops usually keep such basic phones only because there is not a market for smartphones in such areas. People don't have enough time to browse the internet or watch videos.

    Good Morning, Julien Sir!
I have read your thread just now. I find many terms used by you go above my head. So, I would humbly request you to take the pain of explaining 'dumbphones' and 'JioPhones' at the first instance.
Then we will come to analyse threadbare the data furnished by you about use of phones by Indians (like authenticity of data, who undertook the study, data sampling technique, error percentage of the study, etc.).

In fact, there's a good percentage of peoples, mainly from older generations, who prefer phones which have internet access along with primary features. If I had been to give my mom a phone with advanced functions, she wouldn't be capable of function it. It's not that she is illiterate, however she belongs to an older era. Moreover, dumbphones generally tend to have better sturdiness in comparison to smartphones due to the fact that they lack complex features. This is why there may be a nice impact of dumbphones within the market.

My experience is something different. This may be due to the place I live. Hyderabad is a big city, and I see almost everyone here only uses smartphones. Many people have two or more phones also. But none of them are using feature phones. My servant maid stays with her two daughters and all of them are having their phones and all have smartphones only.
Probably in rural areas still, some people may be using them. But the numbers quoted in this particular thread appear to be high.

Rao sir is correct. These are all depends on the place and age group. As far I have seen still many elders do have the basic phones though they can afford to buy a smart one. Jio phones are really good and at the same time, if we go through the website on mobile phones there are number of mobiles manufactured by different companies.
Besides this purchasing a mobile is also not so easy as if we go to a mobile selling shop, they immediately ask us our budget. This is not correct as we cannot buy our own as we see some phone in advertisement or plan to buy as referred by our friends/ close persons as simply they say no stock.

Jio phones have been popular since people living in rural areas prefer this one is economical to them when used for the talking purposes. They don't need any smart phones since they are not addicted to use videos, what's app, Facebook etc. if you explain them the benefits of having a smartphone, they will immediately tell that that they are very much comfortable with this existing version and hence why to have a switch for the new iPhone.
However, this does not hold good for the youngsters living in the rural areas and they are addicted to smartphones due to inclusion of all features which they are normally using.

I am one among the millions of 'dumbheads' using 'dumbphones' and actually a 'jiophone"-Jiophone 1,a button phone.

I find the dumbphone is just enough for me. At a cost of Rs 1500' five and half years ago,( I am on of the early buyers of JiophoneI vey soon on introduction) and still using it for the last five and more years.

It has many advantages over the common smartphones. It is my pocket TV or palm TV especially at dining table.

I pray Government may incentivize manufacture of dumbphones-jiophone as millions of users like me find it just sufficient and quite affordable and durable. At least some will be saved from the exploitation of monopolistic manufacturers and providers.
