Should education focus solely on academic knowledge?

    No.
I think education should encompass a broader spectrum. While academic knowledge is essential, education should also emphasize the development of critical thinking skills, creativity, social and emotional intelligence, and practical life skills. A well-rounded education prepares individuals to thrive in various aspects of life, including personal, professional, and societal domains.

In one Tamil movie a comedian says,' body strong but basement weak.' Like that if there is no academic knowledge but having a good knowledge on other aspects or fields have no real value. Basic academic knowledge is found in some educational institutions as they, teachers, are not concentrating on their students whether they have strong knowledge on alphabets and words but they are teaching in a flow in order to finish their target. Many students more over in this gap of corona holidays forget the alphabets and words in Vernacular language and English due to the continuous closure of schools.
So to have a strong education a good concentration to be focused on academic knowledge. This is applicable to mainly for the below and average students.

According to Swami Vivekananda, education is the manifestation of perfection already in men. We have forgotten the words of the great monk. We have equated education with rote learning and made it a stepping stone to get a job with a fat salary, handsome/beautiful partner and other material benefits. We simply don't know what education is. We should not talk about education anymore.

Education does not mean the academic knowledge alone but from infant stage of a child, we must encourage them to gain knowledge from the different sources including the academic teachings. More we train them earlier relating to this concept, more they will be amenable to pick up learning from the different sources. Bookish knowledge is of no use unless it is fully understood by the learners regarding the importance of such lessons.
It is unfortunate that most of kids attending the schools are not getting due attention of their teachers especially in state government run primary and middle schools where the teachers teach the kids half heartedly without bothering how far these kids are comfortable with the class room sessions.
Hence at all the stages, education should be such that the students can understand well what is taught to them irrespective of sources used to benefit them.

Partha K, your response @#773396 is almost similar, actually a copy by adding a few more lines, to your response in this thread. We must make it a point not to copy our replies to another post and as a responsible senior member of this platform, I hope you will take note of it and correct it accordingly.

Education is an academic pursuit but today it has become necessary that it should be skill-oriented and job specific. Already there are technical courses that help us to achieve that but education as a whole to be aligned in that direction. That is the need of the hour and merely being academic would not help.
    Knowledge is power.

Yes, Partha, @ #773399, there is a specific rule and please refer to it in Forum Posting Guidelines. It is specifically mentioned that "Do not reproduce same response in multiple threads, even if the same answer makes sense in multiple threads". Hope you will not have a problem finding the rules.

Regarding your response @ #773400, I don't think any explanation is required as I have already mentioned the guideline and the link to it. By the way, you talked about the same questions. May I know which questions you are referring to? Are you trying to relate the two topics where you answered in the same way? The two threads discuss different topics and cannot be equated in any way.

Are you talking about formal education? Education is a multi-dimensional system. Academic knowledge will be taught in formal education. Education should bring multidimensional development to the student. That means the student should learn many things besides expertise in books. A student should be taught many things which are extra to academic education. One should find out about the nature of the student and should also understand in which line the student is having extra interest. If the student like the music we should give training in that art also. In addition to that extra circular activities are also more important. Games and sports, NCC etc are good for the students and will be useful for their overall development. The importance of morals and values etc should also be taught to the students. Additionally, a student can be taught about the importance of nature and how to protect it. A student should also be taught about his/ her social responsibilities.
