Teachers should be used for only academic-related work

A teacher is one who teaches. A teacher's main responsibility should be teaching. He /She should not be given work that is not related to teaching or academics.

But I have seen in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, teachers are being used for work that is in no way related to teaching. We all know that teachers will be assigned census work. During the lockdown period, AP teachers were posted as salespersons in government alcohol-selling outlets. They will also be assigned administrative work at the institute. To carry out the administrative work, there should be separate staff and teachers should not be assigned such work. Then only we can expect the best performance from them.

I feel such work will hamper the teacher's interest in teaching and may not give importance to his main duty. I like to know the views of other members.

Teachers should be focused on teaching jobs. That is very correct. But in our system, the Govt or management feels that teachers are not fully occupied and so gives them some other job from time to time. This is happening for quite some time. The system has become habitual of this practice of sharing other jobs with teachers.
It is not only the teachers but a large number of Govt employees who are also asked to do these additional duties from time to time.
As these other jobs are occasional in nature it would be difficult to delink teachers from them.

    Knowledge is power.

I agree, teachers should not be given the task other than teaching and academics job. Here in Assam teachers too are assigned different jobs if the government needed at a time of scarcity of human resources like in the census, poll, covid etc. Most of the time teachers do objections but Government does neglect. The reason for neglecting according to the government is that what will teachers do if they can't even do the assigned job? They don't even do their teaching job properly. So very few teachers raise their voices on such issues, and that's why the government get chances to suppress the willingness of teachers.
But according to me if the teachers could bunk their prime job then they aren't responsible for that. It is a deficiency of the government as the government could not make a framework for the duties and responsibilities of the teachers or could make but not properly implemented it.
There are many such shortcomings of the government, which needed proper evaluation, enactment and execution.

Teachers should not be forced to take up any assignment not connected with their main occupation ie teaching. If the teachers are allowed to go ahead with this noble mission, there is every possibility that that they could show their best talents in the area of teaching and accordingly the pupils under the guidance of such capable teachers could show their outstanding performance in their current studies.
However, the most unfortunate part as highlighted by the author is the diversion of the teachers in other nonproductive activities at the instance of higher authorities. There is no one to oppose such circulars released by the higher authorities of the educational department of the government.
We need to analyse the impact of such forceful decisions on the minds of both teachers and students. I think such arrangements would lead to demotivation to duo - students and teachers. Selling liquor's by the teachers might invite some unpleasant consequences at any point of time and that could create an imbalance of the mental frame of teachers.

It is true and acceptable practically that the teachers alone can do some sort of academic related administrative work. It has been seen in some schools or institutions the non teaching staff getting some what confusion in explaining the academic related work to the parents or outsiders or related external officials. It is good to save some time in such explaining process to outsiders.
