Can I continue my B Tech after 14 years of gap?

Can I continue my B Tech after 14 years of gap?
(I have a very similar case to the original question.)

I completed my diploma and on that basis joined the B Tech in a Central Govt. Deemed University in 2nd year in 2005. When I was in my final year, I got a job in PSU sector. I discontinued my B Tech and took up the job. Now I would like to rejoin and continue with my B Tech by availing study leave. But before this I have a doubt whether I would be able to continue my course from where I left or will I have to start all over again.

Can the gap in studies be regularized and if so, how?
    Please advice.

As per the prevailing regulations in this matter students are generally allowed to complete their B.Tech. degree within a maximum span of 6 years. They will have to complete all their back papers or arrears within that time.
In your case it has exceeded much and I do not think that the course can be resumed from the point it was left.
However, you can think of the possibility of starting again and attempt it as a fresh candidate.

In your case, it appears as a disappointing situation since there is a clear cut guideline that the enrolled students have to complete their B.Tech. Course within the time frame of six years from the date of taking their admissions. The additional two years are meant for clearance of their backlogs if they have any.
In your case, there has been a considerable gap. If you are seriously thinking about this line, you might contact the university- officials for the better guidance on this matter.

Practically it is not possible to start your B Tech from where you left off.
Leave alone the rules and regulations. There are many changes in the curriculum and you may not be able to cope with the new subjects if you start at the place where you left off.
A student will be generally given additional two years for completing the courses and in some special cases if the university feels they can give one more year. Beyond that, there is no chance and you have to start from the first year. You may have to write the entrance test also again.
I suggest you think of doing AMIE which is equivalent to engineering for all practical purposes and even you can do M Tech after completing your AMIE. Institution of Engineers offers this course and you can get the details from their website. As already you have cleared your diploma and put up some relevant experience you will be allowed to take up this course. You can complete this course while you are working.
