Why is forum section is still here if topics can be discussed in social village?

I don't know what exactly is penning down, nor do I understand it, but having two similar platforms is too complicated. And what then is the relevance of the forum section here? Many of the non- educational topics are often given those emojis to promote more discussion. Why is that?

The website is trying to redefine itself. Most probably the top management is in a dilemma. The management, although wants to establish the site as a premier educational website of the country, is hesitating to drastically end the career of the 'Last of the Mohicans' in Forum section.

    So, the present issue arises.

You are perfectly correct in your observation/criticism.

Social Village is another platform and it also belongs to the same network. So the administration heads of this site are always mentioning to use of that platform for raising threads not related to education as this site is focusing on education and its related matters. Anyhow it is our choice to write there or not.

I came to know yesterday from someone in this forum section that the Spider network also has another site called Social Village. Good to know that. But I was thinking a thing that our admin should encourage all the members on this site to post, ask and discuss topics related to books of all boards, question and answer etc. Though there is such a provision, I always see most of the topics discussed here are unlike those. When a student or guardian searches on Google for some question, I wish ISC appears at the top. I personally many times searched and the site 'brainy dot in' appears at the top. But Brainly never allows seeing the answer to a random visitor until he/she signup into the site. So, if members generate more such content and ISC allows a visitor to avail of such content without signing up to the site. Then it is likely to be an increase in the number of visitors.

Neelam, please refer to this thread restricting forum to education related content only and also to the links that Sankalan has provided in his response to your thread here.

It may be noted that Social Village is a part of Spider networks but is not a part of ISC. The site is now being developed as a platform to discuss general topics and is more of a social media field.

In our endeavor to convert ISC into a true academic portal, it has been decided to encourage more education related content but since it is a gradual process we are not discouraging general contents to begin with and that is why most of your threads have been allowed to gather responses.

    Hope the point is clear.

And Partha, you have, as usual, come up with a sarcastic explanation that is nothing but a reflection of your twisted perceptions. Please avoid being so discouraging.

    Saji Sir (#773949):

    (a) Isn't the ISC website trying to redefine itself?
    (b) Doesn't the management want to establish the site as a premier educational website of the country?
    (c) What is 'sarcastic explanation'? Unfortunately I have not studied sarcasm in school, college or in the universities where I studied.

I will try to answer your question.

My writing may be bitter for many, still I am writing.

As a layman, as a well-wisher of this site, I used to watch this forum from outside since many years, not involving much the activities. It was truly educative and knowledge sharing site with many knowledgeable people involved in discussions. Later, gradually, people were started leaving, now almost completely deserted. I think, the team called editors are responsible to drive this site in proper way.It is not happening. If the editors not able to answer the question posed by a member, he will simply delete the post, or make personal barbs, just an escape to save himself. This is hurting the members. If you hurt somebody, people with self-respect will to turn back. This clearly shows their inefficiency. They are not able to manage thesite. Now a days you can see no proper discussion taking place .If somebody come up with some topics, Whoever remained here, will follow with "yes sir, good sir, very good sir.etc.".No arguments/counter arguments, no reasoning, nothing is happening. Indian Education sector is transforming. Lot of changes are taking place. Lot to be discussed. I see lot of scope here. The management is trying to separate the educational content from non-educational part. It is well and good. To make the site truly, educational, the entire editorial team to be disbanded. Young and new faces with new ideas, with sharp minds to be searched. Financial constraints will be there, I am not denying. I agree, many are on voluntary service.
This is my personal observation about the site ISC.

ISC has already moved to the educational niche and time and again it is suggested that general topics are to be populated in its sister site that is social village.
Forum section in ISC is just like a coordinating platform between various other sections and it is also a place where members, editors, and webmaster can interact in matters related to any problem or issue in working in ISC.
Many members are posting forum posts related to education field and we are having a healthy discussion on it.

The thread author's doubt is genuine and relevant. However, it may be seen from a slightly different perspective.
After announcing ISC's transformation to a dedicated Educational Channel, drastic changes started being implemented. Naturally, it disturbed many who were accustomed and attuned to the earlier form and gait of the channel. Dropouts and drains occurred.
But the forum continued to have threads with general content-not any way connected to the education field. I also raised doubts about this confusion in one of the discussions. The answer then was "…….the policy has been implemented with immediate effect but since it is the initial stage, it has been decided to allow general threads, other than threads on politics, religion, drugs, movies, health, etc. for the time being. The idea is to promote threads and topics related to academics/ education and the management has planned to execute the transition gradually, but it won't take much time to come to a full circle.".
Fine. But as the earlier announcement was of a strict tone, members like me did not post any general content threads. This announcement itself made many generalists shy away from the site. But a decision is o be respected and members like me complied. The announcement was in April. Now it is June. Many threads far away from the education field are still seen in forum. This naturally creates confusion. Clarity and finiteness are needed on this.
In order to keep the general content members in the fold there was an encouraging invitation and hint that they can participate in the Social Village site. I am one who got attracted by this and joined Social Village. But it was discouraging there. The site seemed to be just neglected. Subsequently, a new WM was appointed and the SV site is also in the renovating or reformatting stage now.
There also I had to raise a thread "Members avoid making SV be a replica of present ISC; keep it general" as some members started posting education-specific content threads.
So my take from this thread is that let the transition from a general social site to an educational field site be aimed that way and the general content tapered off with a deadline. Similarly, Social Village should be encouraged as a general social site with a large participation.

Since there is a reference to the Social Village site here, happy to inform you that the new Webmaster of Social Village, Dr Apurva has announced a contest on Travel topics for the Knowledge Centre there, and there are good cash prizes. Travel is something that is easy to write about, and I am sure members would be keen to participate. Another good news is that a payment has been announced! It is hoped that members get back to contributing there.

And answering the query in the title of this thread - the forum is still here because it has always been, and still is the heart of ISC. Even if the topics should be focused on education while once in while permitting a couple of other topics, it is not too difficult, surely, to come up with topics on that niche. Education is, after all, quite a vast field. Let's try, shall we?

Also, note that emojis are not given on the basis of whether or not it is a specific type of topic. If an emoji fits appropriately to the thread's main theme of discussion, it may be allotted by a forum editor.
