There is scope for action even after the last date of admission!

In our country, we have got a large number of educational institutions and there is a good number of seats available in various courses. Many meritorious students apply to multiple institutions and choose the best out of that. It is obvious that in such a condition there are occasions when seats in a course are not filled.
Many institutions either advertise or entertain eligible candidates for admission after the last date of the main admission sequence is over and seats are lying vacant.
So, students who missed the bus earlier should take a chance in some of the institutions if they qualify for admission as per the eligibility criteria.

That is true. Many colleges in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will call the students who applied before the last date but could not get a seat in the first or second stages of admissions. If there are no such applicants, they may ask for students to apply or they may announce spot admissions. Go, produce your certificates, pay the fees and get admitted. This is what happens in the spot admission process.
But the seats in standard colleges will get filled and only colleges which are opened newly or colleges which do not have a good record earlier will have only unfilled seats.
In and around Hyderabad we see many Engineering colleges where seats are available and no student is interested in joining those colleges. Many such colleges are closed down. There are many degree colleges and we will find many vacant seats in those colleges also.

This is very true, I noticed here too in Assam. Many students are entangled to get admission in some of the reputed colleges, though they do not get a chance to study their preferred subject. Many colleges offer the subject they preferred but they don't choose as the college isn't as reputed as they choose which results in many seats lying vacant. If it would go on in such a way, gradually the colleges are going to shut down. So it is time, for the government should evaluate and take the initiative to eliminate such discrepancies by introducing some kind of mechanism.

There are some educational institutions which have a very good placement history and that is also a factor attracting students to get admission in it.

The situation looks grim due to functioning of so many colleges offering seats in various professional streams for which there is no demand currently from any employers. The students are calculative in matters of admissions. Putting their honest labour in such courses would amount to sheer wastage of time and money and hence they stay away The admission committee should review the situation time to time and decision should be taken according to prevailing situation.
