Allow autonomous colleges to become nodal centres of excellence

Irrespective of whatever shape the New Education Policy is going to take, we do need a clear policy of value-addition to hundreds of Arts and Science Colleges where the standard of education is not so good.

To this end, there is a big role for good autonomous colleges that are free to design their own syllabus, conduct examinations and also add value-added courses to their syllabuses for any course.

So, if these colleges are given importance and the UGC grants each college all the support and financial resources to mentor ten colleges in the same region, there will be a tremendous value-addition in terms of whatever is needed to keep pace with the changing times.

The UGC should take serious note of this initiative and do the needful in this regard.

Already all the colleges will have affiliation with one or the other university. That university will be monitoring the progress of such colleges and they may be supporting these colleges. However, the college management should have an interest and should show interest in the development of the college. In the absence of such initiative from the college, nobody can push it forward. We can drive a horse to a pond but we can't make it to drink water.
But the suggestion given by the author is excellent and if the colleges of autonomous status can guide such colleges, there will be some improvement in the quality of the college.
Actually, I feel some academicians or professionals who retired and are still active in the field can guide such colleges so that the students who join such colleges also will get benefitted.

Many educational institutes in our country are aligning themselves in arranging skill-based courses and offering the same for eligible candidates. As far as my understanding goes, UGC or any other official agency would be giving adequate support for such courses and already is giving grants and other things for many existing skill-based programs.
Under the new education policy, it is imperative that all the educational institutes whether they are in the private sector or government sector have to align themselves to the industry-related courses and skill-based education systems. In the coming times, it would be very difficult to get a job without some skill-based academic background.

    Knowledge is power.

Whatever the author has indicated is not any departure from the truth. Once a final draft is made how the college management should move in the positive direction should not be the end of their endeavour. The value added teaching is the main part and to achieve excellence in this direction, a committee should be formed consisting of renowned professors, academics and other scholars to rectify some points if needed and should be able to formulate policies which could bring about radical changes in the educational system.,
If this part is missing, we cannot think of any drastic changes within the educational system.
Under the ensuing NEP policy, the courses of the different colleges need to be homogenised so that there is uniform quality of syllabus from colleges to colleges.
