US supreme court banning reservation in university based on race and ethnicity, your take.

Recently the US Supreme Court has been making news all around the world with its decision to ban admission based on race and ethnicity in University. This decision is also getting mixed reactions not only from politicians but also from common people. Even in India, people reading this news are arguing about should Indian courts also reconsider reforms in the reservation system.

This move, on the one hand, is not very much supported by the present government of the USA, former president Barack Obama, and former first lady of the USA Michelle Obama, whereas leaders like Donald Trump have appreciated this move.

How do you see this move? Should such decisions be taken in India as well? Do such reservations compromise merit?

In India, we have seen the benefits of the reservation system. After Independence, it was observed that some kids belonging to the lower castes especially the scheduled casts were not joining schools since parents were not so much interested to send their kids to schools but on the other hand, these children supported their parents to raise the family incomes. These kids were trained in different trades such as shoe - policing, washing cups and plates in street food shops. The moto of the parents was to get immediate cash for meeting family- expenses.
Hence they were not in favour of sending their kids to schools but the intervention of the government machinery and their consequent support helped the kids of the deprived class to continue their education. With all sorts of assistance by way of offering scholarships, free books and other concessions in respect of their low scores of marks, theses kids were able to grab seats in medical, engineering, law and management courses.
In India, it was later felt with the prolonged help, even in the present time, the results were not at all satisfactory and hence it would be better to review the situation in the present situation.
The government must support the weaker sections providing them adequate assistance wherever it is needed without making discrimination in terms of cast lines. If the families of upper classes are financially weak, they must be allowed to enjoy these concessions. In other words, reservation should be extended to the financially weaker sections of the societies regardless of considerations of castes.

I think it is a good move from US supreme court. In my opinion, downtrodden people should get help from the government to see that they will come up in their lives. But at the same time, merit should not be ignored. It is the duty of the government and judiciary in the country to see that brain drain will not happen in the country. Of course, a country like the US may not have any unemployment as of now. But we don't know how it will be in future. Hence all necessary actions to see that there will not be any slump in the country. I think this is such an action in a positive direction.
I think Indian Judiciary also learn a lesson from these decisions and see that India will not lose its active brains which will be very helpful to the country for the betterment of the country. Downtrodden people who are having merit can be given financial help as required.

There was a time when some castes were underprivileged due to social or financial reasons. Wherever it happened the Govt there started to give some sort of reservation to them in education or job or any such area where they did not have any opportunity to work earlier. That type of reservation was considered fair by many people and that continued for a long time. Today, the social environment is totally changed and caste wise differentiation is not there. So the reservation has no meaning now. From that angle what US has done is correct.
In my view in our country we also require abolition of all sort of reservations. Politicians may require it for maintaining their vote banks but reservation policy otherwise is not a healthy thing for a progressive country.

    Knowledge is power.
