What is your opinion on the Montessori Method of Primary Education?

The Montessori Method of education is the brainchild of Dr Maria Montessori. It is a child-centred method of education. This method involves activities that are to be conducted by children on their own. The main aim of this system is to encourage independence among their students. This system will focus more on the overall development of the child that includes social, emotional, intellectual and physical development.

The classroom will have different workstations and the students may be choosing their workstation throughout the day. Children of different ages will be in the same classroom. Teachers will be moving around from station to station and guiding the students and mentoring them.

These days many parents are encouraging Montessori education in their kids. What are your views on this method of education?

The Montessori system is also popular in some parts of our country and it is said that this gives good exposure to the kids for various things related to our environment, society, and other such things. Many preschools or nursery schools are following this methodology though their schools are not named Montessori schools.
It is always good if along with academic learning, we expose the children to many practical things present in our surroundings. Such an approach makes them creative and they can think imaginatively. Nowadays in many nursery schools kids are encouraged to make something with their own hands so that they can get the satisfaction of doing that small project. All these approaches are meant to inculcate creativity in children. Once they start doing small projects themselves then they become interested in everything that is being taught in the schools.
