The first IIT overseas campus will be established in Zanzibar, Tanzania

National education policy (NEP-2000) recommended that high-performing Indian universities will be encouraged to set up campuses in other countries.
Now the first step in this direction is taken and IIT Madras will set up its campus institute in Tanzania by October 2023. An MOU is signed on 5th July 2023 between the educational authorities of the two countries in this regard. This first foreign IIT campus will be established in Zanzibar, Tanzania. It will be a step towards the internationalization of Indian Education.

The speciality of this institution is to offer the students of enhanced application of thinking abilities to the problems to be sorted out with their best faculties.
The passed out candidates from this indigenous institution are working in the different countries apart from India providing strong messages within both educational institutions and industries regarding their outstanding capabilities.
Tanzania has taken a wise stand by signing up the memorandum of establishing IIT in their country so as to have the same quality in terms of education as enjoyed in India.

IITs are internationally well-known. The students from these institutes are in jobs across the globe and there is a lot of demand for these institutes. As such it is a very progressive step towards promoting Indian education in other countries. It is good to note that a south-based IIT from Madras is signed an MOU with Tanzania and setting up an institute there. Still, more details are awaited about the courses, syllabus, admission process etc are to be known.
Now I think other IITs may also follow in the footsteps of this Chennai Institute and spread their wings in other countries also.
