Maharashtra state medical education department has derecognised all the courses run by CPS

The medical education department of Maharashtra state has carried out inspection and checking of functioning of College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS). It was found that there were gross irregularities and lacuna in the conducting of courses by this college. The hospitals affiliated to this college for practical part of the courses were found to be in a very poor condition and many of them were even not ready for inspection.
Based on the enquiry and checking, Maharashtra Government has derecognised all the courses run by CPS and have issued gazette notification in this regard.
Students who were planning to enroll in these courses in this college have to take a note of these developments and should be careful in this respect.

The author has displayed an early warning to the student community in context of their interest towards CPS courses. There are some innocent aspirants who never go to verify the notifications issued by the government. Some of candidates rely upon middlemen to get their work done with the payment of the premium amount as demanded by these unscrupulous individuals. To warn them, is definitely a good step so that they are not unnecessarily harassed by the antisocial elements.

A piece of very useful information from the author. Anyhow, if the government cancels the recognition what happens to the students who are presently studying there is an important issue. Is the government going to accommodate them in other institutes? Otherwise, the government has to give some time to the institute to bring all issues in order and then again give permission so that students can continue their studies.

Institutions should not play with the lives of the students. The doctors who are coming out from these colleges are supposed to take care of the health issues of the people. But if they are not getting trained properly society will also suffer.

Regular inspections and audits from the government should be arranged for all educational institutions and recognitions of the colleges that are violating should be suspended and revoked after rectification, I feel.

It is good to take proactive steps when required, but it is equally necessary to put in place steps that will answer the query 'What next for the students?' As Dr. Rao stated, will they get seats in other medical education programs? What about the fees they paid for the CPS courses? We all know fees in professional courses run into lakhs. Are those who registered for the upcoming academic session getting refunds? And what about those who completed a CPS course? Will their qualification now affect their employment?

It is hoped that the Medical Education Dept. of the State Govt. has considered all these and other possible issues so that the students don't suffer.

State Govt will have to accommodate the students stranded in between in some way and we would know about it soon. Meanwhile this derecognition would create a shortage of professionals and for that State Govt is contemplating to increase the seats elsewhere in the medical institutions.
    Knowledge is power.
