When knowledge and technology have no say in the matter
Hope all your families, friends, and acquaintances have safely weathered the climatic storms of the last few days.In recent years, we are experiencing extreme vagaries in the weather. In India, currently, we saw how heavy rain and flash floods have created horrendous damage in the Northern States, such as Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chandigarh, etc Even the capital city of New Delhi was, literally, submerged by the mighty Yamuna. It is the same case around the world. We have read reports of heavy downpours and floods in parts of the US, Spain, etc.
Science and technology have advanced so much. We have satellites, we have massive meteorological equipment installed to capture data and predict weather conditions, and even anticipate the path of a hurricane or cyclone and where the landfall will happen.
We saw how the Govt. very, very competently managed the challenge of Cyclone Biparjoy with input from the IMD keeping them aware, and, in anticipation, evacuating thousands to safety, and deploying NDRF teams. And yet...Why wasn't this same strategy employed now?
We are even aware that there is a climate crisis. We know we need to take steps to make the effort to halt its fast, damaging spread. And yet...
