When knowledge and technology have no say in the matter

Hope all your families, friends, and acquaintances have safely weathered the climatic storms of the last few days.

In recent years, we are experiencing extreme vagaries in the weather. In India, currently, we saw how heavy rain and flash floods have created horrendous damage in the Northern States, such as Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chandigarh, etc Even the capital city of New Delhi was, literally, submerged by the mighty Yamuna. It is the same case around the world. We have read reports of heavy downpours and floods in parts of the US, Spain, etc.

Science and technology have advanced so much. We have satellites, we have massive meteorological equipment installed to capture data and predict weather conditions, and even anticipate the path of a hurricane or cyclone and where the landfall will happen.

We saw how the Govt. very, very competently managed the challenge of Cyclone Biparjoy with input from the IMD keeping them aware, and, in anticipation, evacuating thousands to safety, and deploying NDRF teams. And yet...Why wasn't this same strategy employed now?

We are even aware that there is a climate crisis. We know we need to take steps to make the effort to halt its fast, damaging spread. And yet...

Why is the world unable to use its resources, whether it is knowledge acquired or technological expertise, well? The world has the best scientists and climate experts. And yet...

That is true. What is the use of having knowledge and technology in hand when we are not able to use it for our benefit? ISRO is monitoring the climate second to second sending updates through the satellites that are in space. The same is the case with NASA also.
Nature will always have its last laugh. We feel we have everything in our control. But actually, nothing is in our control if nature wants to take revenge on us. We feel technology is making everything possible. But certain things are definitely not in our hands.
If the present trend of abusing the environment continues for some more time, we will see many more such calamities and the world population may also come down sharply. One should never think that one can control t nature.

Despite the advancements in science and technology and especially in meteorological predictions, we are still far from perfect predictions and taking preventive measures in time. The meteorological predictions are slowly and slowly becoming more and more accurate but the follow-up preventive actions are not up to the mark. Some people attribute these failures to poor governance while others mention that managing so many disasters or natural calamities at the same time is a massive job and our disaster management system is not well equipped and sufficient to take care of everything in that meticulous way.
We can only hope that things would improve in this matter and we would be able to take preventive measures earlier than what is happening in many cases presently.
The role of citizens and non-government agencies is also very important in these matters and that can definitely strengthen all the relief works that the government is providing through its channels.

Natural calamities are on the rise and we have the tendency of cursing the nature for all such mishaps. However, we need to understand the root cause behind such problems and on deep analysis, many drawbacks will surface in such as deforestation drive being initiated by us for making , duplex, apartments, Vila's in the cities and even in the villages, the people are in the habit of massive cutting of trees for their fuels resulting in deficient rain in these affected areas. The manufacturing sectors are producing their finished products disregarding safety norms in terms of pollution. The ejection rate of gases contain enormous dust particles apart from dangerous gases detrimental to human health apart from contaminating the atmosphere.
This ultimately dis balances environment and the ultimate forms are no rain at some regions, cyclones, storms or other adverse calamities. In this regard, our consciousness is the only answer.

Any development that goes against the balance of nature will be disastrous. No technology will be able to prevent the flow of nature and it is foolish to think that man will be able to overcome the the natural process. Predictions of weather and climatic changes are based on certain calculations and no one can claim such calculations to be accurate.

Building skyscrapers, rail and roadways without conducting proper environmental studies and taking into consideration the nature of the soil and the quality of earth in a particular place will definitely destroy the balance of nature and this will lead to natural disasters and calamities that can create havoc in our lives.

We have been witnessing such incidents across the world but are we really concerned? Development is fine but it should not be at the cost of our existence.

Everyone today understands that changing climate is creating new forms of threats every day and its drastic consequence but at the same time everyone thinks it is not their problem to be concerned about. Whether it is at a personal level, state, national and international level. The dereliction of responsibility by everyone. At personal level a person seeing his/her comfort at the cost of environment, a state trying to gain more resources at the cost of natural resources that can help any other state to overcome a difficult issue. At international level already developed nations trying to harness more and more power and resources at the cost of underdeveloped and lesser developed nation. We see such things at the daily basis. Climate change is issue of concern only on paper and when it comes to action everyone just tries to postpone them thinking that it does not concern them.

By gathering a lot of knowledge we developed new technologies and we are implementing them at various levels. When we are implementing we are following a process and if we do not follow the process we will not get the desired result. The same thing applies everywhere and all things we encounter daily are process-oriented. Nature/environment follows a wonderful process because of which beautiful flowers and plantations grow. However, if certain conditions are not matched the growth will be stunted. The amount of greenery and population has a unique relationship. They are proportional to each other. Unfortunately, the population has increased manifold and the greenery has reduced a lot. We never thought of this disparity and also not doing enough to protect the greenery. When we failed to follow the process of protecting natural resources we will not get the desired result and that's why despite having advanced in terms of technology and knowledge we are helpless in front of nature.

How is the situation in your immediate locality where you stay and in the city in general? The monsoon mayhem is really very severe this year, much more in fact than earlier. Flooding and tree falls, not to mention landslides have resulted in the loss of lives and homes.

Hope you all and your families are safe and in good health. Get in touch with everyone you know and check with them if they are safe and require assistance in any way.

The behaviour of the monsoon is very erratic this year. It has played a havoc in most of the pockets of the country where relentless rain is occurring causing landslides and the localities are fully immersed in water. Even in Delhi and Gurgaon regions, rain - water has entered into premises of their accommodations living in the ground apartments. Even the situation of Mumbai and the adjoining areas include Pune is no more better due to continuous downpours.
The most dangerous areas are potholes lying on the roads not visible apparently but might pose a dangerous zones for the traffic including the pedestrians. Unfortunately, we have not learnt so far how to tackle this menace despite the assurances of several municipalities and administrations claiming that potholes have plugged effectively.
However, the situation in Jharkhand and Bihar is no better where drought like conditions are being observed.
