Are we really ready for the NEP?

Whenever there is some reform, it has to reach each and every citizen of India. Today, the National Education Policy is so much in the news. However, very little about this has really reached the teachers, the vital stakeholders and even much less, the students who are the most important stake-holders.

At best, some CBSE schools have taken some steps in some pockets. In spite of a big population, we still do not find the best of Mathematics teachers, for example. Mathematics is often a nightmare for thousands of students, who seem to be really losing out in the rat race.

This is just one tip of the iceberg, in terms of challenges. Social science teachers are very difficult to find too. Sociology, for example, is a fabulous subject but most parents and even many teachers have not even heard about it.

We need massive communication efforts to implement NEP.. Otherwise, we will be beating around the bush.

Many universities are implementing some important points mentioned in NEP. New specialisations and combinations are being implemented. But still, a lot is to be implemented. As mentioned by the author for any new thing implementation dedication and sincerity are required. Otherwise, we will not enjoy the fruits.
Finding good teachers is becoming a problem. I know some teachers who were very dedicated to teaching. But such teachers are also getting changed due to the conditions prevailing around them.
Once upon a time people used to say that the salaries for teachers were very less. But the situation is different now and their salaries are also good.
I feel all teachers should be given some online training and inform them about the NEP and see that they will also update their knowledge and impart good education.

NEP is a very ambitious program and requires a big change from present system to the new system. We have a large number of educational institutions and there are differences in their locations and infrastructural facilities. In some of them due to their remote location there is shortage of qualified staff. Due to these differences the roll out of NEP cannot be done with same speed and pace everywhere. It would take some time for it to spread across the length and breadth of the country.
There are always problems in implementation of such big schemes because the people working at ground level are many times bogged down by local factors and their activities of development are constrained.
Anyway, I believe that slowly NEP will pick up and soon we would see its positive effect in our educational system

    Knowledge is power.
