IIT going to open its second overseas campus

IIT has planned to open its first overseas campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania and that is expected to start by October 2023. That would be an overseas campus of IIT- Madras.
Now IIT is going for its second overseas campus to be opened in Abu Dhabi, UAE. This campus will be the overseas campus of IIT-Delhi.
On July 15, 2023, an agreement was signed between our Ministry of Education and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
These overseas campuses are being set up in accordance with the developmental points envisaged in the New Education Policy (NEP).

It is good to note that IITs are opening their campuses in other countries also. That is really a matter of pride for our country. At the same time, the expansion should go very methodically and should not go in a hurry. In the process of expansion, standards should not get dilutes. This is very important.
Modi and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed are present when the MOU was signed. That is showing the importance given by both countries to higher education. It is decided that IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will start functioning in January 2024. Initially, a master's programme in energy transition and sustainability will be offered. Other courses like bachelor's, master's and PhD programmes may be offered from September 2024.
They are planning to start research centres to conduct research in the fields of sustainable energy, climate studies, computing and data sciences.
Hope more abroad IITs will come up.
