IIT Bombay is going to offer 3-year exit option with B.Sc. degree to its engineering students

Under the New Education Policy (NEP) there is a lot of emphasis being given for bringing in the flexibility in education system. In line with that many institutions are bringing new ideas in educational streams. Now IIT Bombay is going to offer an exit option to its engineering students to leave an engineering course after 3 years with a B.Sc. degree. This would be helpful to those who are not able to cope up with the 4-year B.Tech. course due to various individual reasons like not able to clear arrears in time or experiencing difficulty in continuing their studies.
Last year, IIT Bombay did a pilot project and 15 students opted for B. Sc. degree quitting their B.Tech. course. Students who want to opt out with this option will have to secure 160 credits in 3 years time.
What are your views on this new arrangement in our apex institutions like IITs?

IIIT is providing an opportunity to all students not interested any more for their B. Tech degree for the exit option if they have secured the threshold points during their three year studies and are ready to accept newly formulated course ie B. Sc ( Engg)
It might prove a boon for many students who have made up their minds to relinquish the course for various reasons but such a decision would go in their favour because of getting a valid degree in terms of getting gainful employment.

It is good for the student who is not able to complete 4 years of study due to various reasons. His/Her toil for 3 years will not become a waste. He will be coming out with a degree at least. He/ She can pursue his job with that qualifications. In a 3-year degree course, if a student is discontinuing after 2 years, he/she may be awarded a diploma as per the new education policy. Now the same concept is applied to engineering courses also. I think after some time an engineering student who is discontinuing after 2nd year may be given a diploma in Engineering also. A person who discontinued after 3 years without getting the minimum credits should also may be given some time to complete the backlogs within a specified time. Now we will start seeing B.Scs from IITs also with this new policy of IITs.
