UGC declared the names of 20 fake universities in the country

University Grants Commission (UGC) yesterday made an announcement saying that it has identified 20 fake universities across the country. These universities are offering degrees to students without following the guidelines and provisions of the UGC. Students should know that the degrees given by such institutions will not be useful for higher studies or for a job also. The list of such universities will be available on the website of UGC. It is advised that all the students and their parents should verify the list and see that they are not getting into such educational institutions.

In the list of 20 announced by UGC yesterday, there are 8 universities from Delhi, 4 from Uttar Pradesh and 2 from Andhra Pradesh. Please see the full list and see that students will not be losing their time and money.

It is good that UGC has caught these fake universities and issued the advisory. Students should be very careful about these fake institutions.
Sometimes it becomes difficult to find out the truth and authenticity of these fake universities but some basic things help us in finding the correct information.
The first thing is that we should find out the licenses and approvals of these institutions which are mentioned either on their websites or the UGC site. Another thing is their affiliations, accreditations, and approvals with AICTE, NAAC, UGC, etc.
One should also try to see their names in ranking tables also.
Another important thing is that if we come to know about any such fake university then we as responsible citizens should inform to UGC site for UGC to take action on them.

    Knowledge is power.

Of late, so many universities have surfaced with their attractive features and by going through the advertisements, the students are lured into their catchy promises. However, the practical approach for the students is to go through a set of parameters such their rankings, accreditations with NAAC, UGC and its approval from AICTE.
Once they verify all such contents, they could ascertain their status. The students should not sit idle when the facts are known to them and under such situations, it should be their duty to report to UGC site so that appropriate action against such universities could be taken.

Under Sale of Goods Act, there is a maxim, 'caveat emptor' which means let the buyer beware. That is the buyer should careful before buying any product.

Similarly now the college admissions also stress additional care on the universities whether is genuine or not.

https://www.ugc.gov.in/page/Fake-Universities.aspx website provides the list of fake universities.
