Who is responsible for the decline in the moral values of students?

I have observed that the moral values of students are declining day by day. They become violent and disrespectful to elders, teachers and parents. At our time, moral education was an essential part of the syllabus. But nowadays, moral education is not a part of the syllabus.

In my opinion, students always follow their parents and teachers. So, they should present an ideal example before the students. Social media is also a cause of a decline in moral values.

Who is responsible for declining the moral values of the students? Our education system, parents, teachers, social media?

The decline in the moral values of students is a complex issue influenced by various factors. It's not fair to attribute it to a single entity. Parents, teachers, the education system, and even the influence of social media all play roles in shaping a student's moral values. Collaborative efforts between these elements are essential to address this concern effectively.

In my opinion, this society is responsible for this. Again what is a society? Society is a group of people. So we are all responsible for the observation made by the author. When a child brings and shows a good pen and says to his/ her mother/father that the pen is stolen by him from another student's bag if they make the child understand that stealing an item from others is not correct and unethical and makes him/her give it back to the students to whom it belongs., the child will never repeat such actions. Instead, if the parents keep silent, the student will continue such habits.
In my opinion, the values in society are declining and that is making students also like that. As mentioned by the author Moral Education should become a part of the Curriculum. But more than that if elders including parents and teachers start observing moral values in their lives, automatically, there will be a change and students will also think about morals and values in their lives,

I think it is a combination of many factors like society, home environment, education system and the individuals inclination towards this world.
Society plays a prime role in this because all of us learn from the society around. We are influenced by what we see around. There are many evil things happening around and we are observing them. What will be their impact on our minds?
Students have tender minds and they are affected much by anything which is negative and destructive happening around them. The atmosphere in the house is also a very important factor because if there is no discipline and proper administration in the house then children become uncontrollable and fall in bad company and we have seen many cases when they are addicted to smoking, drugs and things like that.
One cannot adopt moral values just by listening to moral talks. It requires a conducive and positive environment.
So there is a need of synergy if we want that student should be aware of moral values and adhere to them.

    Knowledge is power.

According to me the major responsibility goes on parents. Next to them only in the order of Teacher, Education System and Social media.
Many parents do not care their children in their studies or expertise by showing that they are so busy in their own schedule. In those days our parents never told about their problems to us when we are students even at college level. After finishing our college degree only we understand the family situation. This actually helped us a lot in concentrating in our education. Though we did not achieve a top most level in our studies we crossed all our classes without failing or with poor marks.
In one Tamil cini song, 'Entha kuzhanthaiyum nalla kuzhanthai thaan mannil pirakkaiyile, athu nallavanaavathum theeyavanaavathum annai valarkkaiyile' which means all children are good when born but become good or bad on the mother's care only.
When parents shows dejection or uncared on the student children, this definitely sit in their heart strongly. It automatically divert them into other activities without minding good or bad. Morality in them dies at there itself.
If we get good meals in home, we are not searching for hotels, similarly if house is good no children go out from the house persons or parents.
Parents should free with the student children always, they should talk to them, they should hear them and never should think this is a pampering one on them.
When parents gives a peaceful and free situation to them automatically it will get enriched in schools and flourished with the teachers' teachings. If their mind got valued strong in this manner no social media affect their mind on any account.

In my opinion, not one factor rather various factors are responsible for this. Our education system, parenting, social media, and lifestyle as well. In today's time, one of the most dangerous factor is social media which are deteriorating our life. Nowadays, children are becoming emotionless and disrespectful towards their elders . Parents also have no time to teach moral values to their children. They are busy with earning more and more money. They leave their children with servant maids and they grow with her. Nowadays everywhere nuclear family is there. Parents never introduce their cildren to relatives and friends due to lack of time. So, their personality is not developed properly. Since starting some children use rubbish language and bad words because of the servant maid. Besides, our school only complete syllabus and they have no connection with discipline and manner. As a result, many children are good at studies but don't have moral value.

The decline in moral values among students in India, as in any country, is a complex issue with multiple contributing factors.

Several factors can play a role in this decline:
Rapid social and cultural changes in India, such as urbanization, globalization, and the influence of mass media, has impacted traditional moral values. These changes expose students to a wider range of beliefs and behaviors.

Parents also play a crucial role in instilling moral values in their children. However, some parents may be too busy, and may lack the necessary guidance, or be influenced by changing societal norms.

The education system in India can often prioritize academic achievement over moral and ethical education. Schools and colleges should place more emphasis on character education and ethical development.

Mass media, the internet, and social media exposes students to content that may not always promote positive moral values. It's essential for parents and educators to help students critically evaluate and navigate these influences.

Peer groups have a significant impact on students' behavior and values. The desire to conform to peer expectations may lead some students to adopt behaviors and values that may not align with traditional moral values.

Economic pressures, competition, and a focus on material success can sometimes lead individuals, including students, to prioritize financial gain over moral and ethical considerations.

The absence of structured moral and ethical education within the curriculum can be a contributing factor. If schools do not explicitly teach and reinforce moral values, students may not develop a strong moral compass.

Government policies related to education, media regulation, and other areas can influence the values and behavior of students. These policies can either promote or undermine moral values.

India is a diverse country with a multitude of religions and cultures. While this diversity is a strength, it can also lead to different interpretations of moral values and ethics.

In addressing the decline in moral values among students, it's important for parents, educators, policymakers, and society as a whole to work collaboratively.
A holistic approach that involves families, schools, communities, and government bodies can help promote ethical education and instill positive values in the younger generation.
Additionally, promoting open dialogue about values, ethics, and societal expectations can encourage students to think critically and make informed moral choices.

What the author has indicated cannot be denied that there is the gradual deterioration of the moral values of the students. This community alone is not responsible for such a lapse but before labelling the entire fault on them , we need to to closely investigate our own characters and values. If we talk something of high standards but at the same time doing contrary to our assertions, the students cannot be fooled for long.
The students closely watch how we are behaving ourselves and any preaching would be meaningless provided we set a norm of high standards to influence them.
However, not all the students are of the same temperament, some students display decent characters due to their correct upbringing's. In this sense, role of the parents are equally important to instil goodness in their characters. In the long run, they display their charming characters in all the areas of their activities.
