Is education only for clearing examinations?

The education system these days puts more emphasis on clearing examinations. All educational institutions in general, coaching centres in particular give more importance to see that the students from their institutions will score good ranks and marks. In this attempt, they ignore completely that education should give the students thinking capabilities and problem-solving techniques.

Many students start preparing well for the examinations and spend many sleepless nights before the examinations. Once the examinations are over they forget what they read to get ready for examinations.

one should not forget that education is not alone in passing the examination, but also for gaining knowledge and obtaining skills.

The author is really correct that the present tradition for the students is to secure high score in their examination what they are planning for. They only target to achieve brilliant results irrespective of the means they adopt to get the same.
They don't bother to understand the basics of the related chapters. It is not applicable to the entire student community but majority of the students fall to this category.
There are short cut guides such as the guess papers. notes of the seniors etc to be utilised during their examination and once the examination is over. they tend to forget the complete courses.
Unless the students change their attitude towards the examination, improvement would be a distant dream for them.

Education has many purposes in one's life. Acquiring education is a process and passing examination is only one element in the chain.
The purpose of education is to make an all round improvement in one's life from personality improvement to mental development related to and of academic order.
It is the education that makes a person a good citizen of a society. It is the entity instrumental in making a person wise and inculcates wisdom in the due course.
It would be a grave misunderstanding if a student thinks passing the exam only the purpose of education.

    Knowledge is power.

This is the weakness of our education system because it prepares the students for the examination only. We know that we need education to survive life in a better way. Students do not work on developing skills they only work to pass the examination. After passing the examination they fail to compete and sometimes get depressed.

We hope that the NEP will remove this problem and will develop the different skills in the students which are necessary for life.

    Honesty is the best policy.

Education should not solely revolve around clearing examinations. While exams are a part of the education system, the primary goal of education should be to impart knowledge, foster critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills in students. Rote learning and exam-focused education may help in scoring marks, but they often fail to provide a holistic understanding of the subject matter. Education should empower individuals with the ability to apply their knowledge to real-world situations and encourage lifelong learning.

The author is a person of education. His views are really appreciable. The teachings of lessons are normally told by teachers with examples and stories in that connection. This is because of the intention in making the students to understand the lessons clearly. Even now I remember the teachings of my teachers/lecturers in my school/college level. This is only because of the teachers/lecturers. They should also handle their classes in the ways of making students to expect their class and not 'just like that'.
This automatically makes the students to study their subject with involvement and not just for clearing the examainations.

Education is for acquiring knowledge which in turn enables a person to understand what is good for him, his family, the society, country and ultimately, the world. But, thanks to us (the parents), we have confined education into clearing examinations with good marks and ultimately getting suitable jobs.

To change our attitude about education, we have to educate ourselves properly.
