How much education one should acquire?

Everyone has to acquire education for one's growth and making a career. Depending on the interest and the inclination, one pursues a particular stream or course if one is able to get admission in that as most of the coveted courses require the students to qualify in some competitive examination.

Most of the students after completing their educational ambitions search for a job for making a career. Some are successful in getting good jobs while many others have to satisfy with the mediocre jobs. Some students try their luck in business or self employment opportunities and make a career like that.

Every student cannot do excellent in academics and everyone cannot get a good job. So a question arises why every student should go for higher education and go for relentless pursuit of academics? Would it not be better to acquire some basic qualifications and then switch to self employment or business or some trade or mediocre job instead of wasting additional 4 to 6 years in acquiring higher education?

What is your opinion on this? Please share your views.

As far as I am concerned, I don't find any way to define the requirement of education level. Education is nothing but learning some new aspects and acquiring knowledge. So there is no end to this learning.
For performing a particular job, knowledge in a particular field is required and the level will depend on the work that is to be carried out. Based on the job requirement, the legibility criteria will be defined.
Whether to go for higher studies or to stop at a particular level will be the choice of the individual, The job opportunities and employment potential will vary from subject to subject.
For joining an IT job in an IT industry UG qualification is sufficient. So a person who wants to serve in the IT industry starting from the entry-level need not go for PG he can join a company and put up service so that he can go to a higher position with experience. But a person who wants to go for a teaching job should go for PG and PhD courses.
We can't make a general comment on this aspect, I feel.

Educational the formal sense stops at a certain stage, but 'learning' continues.
Learning is just education without any rigid frames and deadlines.
So one should learn continuously till death.

There is no end to education or learning. It is a continuous process like our breath and stops with he breath stopping.
