Should a student spare some time to teach the students of lower classes?

When I was doing my class XI then my father asked me whether I could teach Mathematics and English to his friend's child, 3 days a week, for 2 months, by visiting his house. The child was in class IV and their house was nearby and it was not a big deal and I agreed for that.
I started my first teaching assignment and I found that there were many basic things which either I did not remember or I was not having a clear concept. So I started to go through those things before going to their house for teaching the child.
The point I am driving is should a student take up such assignments of teaching children of lower classes? Whether it would help him in getting some concepts clear? If it is a useful activity then there is no harm in sparing some time for such teaching sessions.
What do you think about this? Please share your views or experiences if any.

Basically, this is a good idea and it will be helpful to both parties provided both are sincere in their attempts. A student in class XI teaching a VI class student will be useful for the senior to revive his basics and understand them properly. When we have to teach somebody, we look at the subject more deeply. That will give us a better understanding of the subject.
My Uncle was a teacher. He used to take tuition in the house. When I was in my intermediate, I used to go and sit with him. During that time I was also taking part in explaining lessons to students studying lower classes. That experience helped me in many ways. While doing my PhD I used to take tuition to intermediate and B.Sc students.
These days, in some schools on Teacher's day, some of the students will be asked to do teaching in the schools, I understand.

Teaching to lower classes is a good proposition and one can definitely spare a little time for it but the students have to see that how much time they can spare from their already tight schedule.

Though this is good idea, my uncle, who was a professor, dead against to this idea. The teaching to lower class students in the spare time will divert his own subject knowledge, according to him. It is better to teach for his own class level students which help him or her to recollect his/her subject knowledge.

Teaching younger students can be a rewarding experience for both the student tutor and the younger learner. It can help reinforce your own understanding of foundational concepts, improve communication skills, and provide a sense of fulfillment. However, it's important to strike a balance and ensure that it doesn't overwhelm your own studies. If done in moderation, it can be a beneficial and altruistic activity.
