Every school should have a parent-teacher association

Every school should have a parent-teacher association (PTA). This association have some parents and teachers. The President, J. President, treasurer and Jt treasurer are appointed from them. This association discusses the different problems related to school education and tries to find a solution to that problem. Some schools also provide financial power to this association. We can make this association more powerful by providing different academic and financial power to the association.

Members are requested to share their opinions about the role of PTA in this thread.

I think that already in many educational institutions such interactions are taking place. There are regular parent-teacher meetings being organised in the schools or colleges where parents can ask various clarifications and discuss their grievances if any.
I think in those institutions where such practice is not there it should be started as it is beneficial for the welfare of the students in all respect.

    Knowledge is power.

As mentioned by Umesh Ji, the Parent-Teacher Association is prevailing in many schools now.
The following are the reasons for failure of the effectiveness of such Association activities:
    1. Communication gap between parents and schools - in many cases prevalence of such Association itself is not in the awareness of parents
    2. Parents do not contact teachers or school friends about their children even casually.
    3. In many houses parents do not drop and pick up their children at any level of age from schools and they were under impression that they should made themselves practice to go and come independently.
    4. The word 'independence' play in the parents in case of their children very well.
5.Parents are not sitting with their student children even as casually and treat them as grown up elders and they think if sitting like this it will leads to pampering.

Recently Tamil Nadu Government launched a novel idea that is the department of Education send SMS to the mobile of the parents if the student is not attending the school on a day. If it is repeated the SMS also got repeated. But unless otherwise the parents reacts on this, the fruitfulness of such idea become futile.

Teacher and parent interactions are a necessity I feel.
Many Private schools will conduct parent meetings at least once a month and that will help the teachers and parents to know each other well. This will help teachers to talk to the parents about their children and advise them about the points to be taken care of. At the same time parents can also communicate the problems they are observing with their children's learning and process so that teachers can amend their ways of teaching so that students will get maximum benefit.
However in many government schools, I have not seen this practice. I feel all schools should start these meetings. WhatsApp groups can be formed with teachers and parents and that can be used as an interface for communicating with each other. Physical meeting may be organised once in a month or so. But these WhatsApp groups can be used regularly.
