Did you represent your school at inter-school, district-level or national competitions?

One of the things that students take great pride in is to represent their school in an inter-school competition. This could be in sports, debating, a quiz, a science presentation, etc. Needless to say, winning a cash prize, a medal or a trophy or a certificate of merit added to the glow. Even without a prize, it was always good to be selected to represent the school. I have not had this opportunity but did enthusiastically participate in a few inter-house sports competitions.

What about you? How many of you have taken part in an inter-school contest or been selected at the district, State or national levels? Did you also get an opportunity at the college or university level?

I represented in many district and state-level competitions conducted by the Scouts and Guides organisation. Those days Scouts and Guides organisation was conducting yearly camps at the district level and state levels. I participated in two or three state-level camps and two or three district-level camps. There were competitions in all these camps and we won in some competitions. Once our school team became the best-performing team and got an award. After back to school our school gave special prizes to all the members of the team. I have no idea about Scouts and Guides activities in schools.
Once I participated in an inter-district debate competition and essay writing competition in Telugu. I got 2nd prize in essay writing. I remember those days. I never participated in national-level competitions. After my high school studies, at the college level, I never participated in any such competitions. At Andhra University, I participated in an inter-college debate competition and obtained a merit certificate only.

As a proud occupant of last bench in school, college and universities (more than one), I used to give less stress on studies and remained busy in various extra-curricular activities. I used to take part in recitation and quiz competitions at various levels while in school and in college. I represented my school and my college in recitation, quiz and in football and won a few awards and certificates.
I also played cricket and chess; but in these two sports, my performance was not very good. I never represented my school or my college in cricket or in chess.
While I was studying at the University of Calcutta, instead of representing the university, I concentrated on attending interesting courses. Two such courses which I attended were Diploma in Scinece Journalism and also another Diploma in understanding related aspects of film-making. I immensely liked these two courses and learnt a lot.

Honestly speaking, I was a bookworm and was always interested in reading. Apart from school text books all my spare time went in reading books containing stories, novels, and other books mainly in Hindi and English languages.
As most of my time went in reading I had no time for any extra curricular activities. Moreover I was not having any interest for those things.
My reading habits started when I was in class 7 and gradually it increased and it reached apex when I was doing my UG and I remember at that time I was easily reading 2 to 3 books in a week. Thanks to the government library from where I was getting all the books free for my reading. I do not remember how many books I had read but I am sure that whatever I read even if one percent of that remained in my mind that is sufficient for me today to write on any topic without any preparation.
When I was in my high school then teacher told us that everyone should have at least one extra curricular activity if not more. I was in a fix as I didn't know what to do. Our class cricket team came to my rescue and told me that there was a position of score keeper available and I was thought to be the best person to do that. It was a simple job to sit on the side of the field where two teams were playing cricket and then note down the scores on a pre printed form. I did that job for a few matches played within the different teams in our school itself and that was the only extra curricular activity I had during my student life.

    Knowledge is power.
