Why do many Indian students go to Bangladesh for medical education?
When I first got this information, I was very astonished and perplexed. But now it is almost normal. Many Indian students are studying medicine in Bangladesh. Why do Indian students go to Bangladesh to study medicine? The reasons are mentioned below in brief:(a) Bangladesh is a neighbouring country of India. The major cities can be reached in less than one hour from Kolkata or from Agartala by air. Even, train and bus services to Dhaka, Chattagram, Jashor, Khulna and Faridpur are available from Kolkata or Agartala.
(b) Bangladeshis speak Bengali, but they very well understand Hindi and English. So, Indian students generally do not face language problem in Bangladesh.
(c) Bangladesh has a sub-tropical monsoon climate. So, Indian students don't face much problem in this regard. The food-habits of Bangladeshis are more or less same.
(d) The cost of living in Bangladesh is almost similar to that in India. Further, for an Indian student, the course fee and other expenditure for studying medicine in Bangladesh are quite reasonable.
(e) The medical course structure of Bangladesh closely follows the course structure of India. In many cases, the text-books are also same. So, Indian students don't face any problem to study medicine in Bangladesh.
(f) Total thirteen seats are reserved for Indian students for MBBS course and one seat for BDS course under SAARC countries quota. In addition, many Indian students also study in semi-private private medical colleges in Bangladesh.
(g) It is very important to note that the Bangladeshi medical and dental degrees are recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).
These are the reasons because of which many Indian students, who fail to get good medical colleges in India on the basis of NEET, chose Bangladesh to study medicine.
