UGC has released draft guidelines for mandatory internships

University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued draft guidelines for undertaking mandatory internships by the UG students in our country. The idea is that every student should be aware of the industries around and also learn job career prospects by going through internships.
Already a good number of students are doing internships during their UG/PG phase of education but this new stipulation by UGC will force the institutions to manage and create facilities and scope for the students for taking up internships in various industries with whom these institutions are having affiliations. This will also give an opportunity to students to have links and connections with various industries where internships are being offered. It is believed that this will also help students in securing a variety of jobs.

This is a very good move from the University Grants Commission of India. The student coming out of a college with a degree should know where the skills taught are useful. This is possible only when the students have some knowledge about the practical applications of the subject taught in the colleges. This will come only when they have some interaction with the industry. In this contest, these internships are very useful and helpful. So making these internship mandatory is very important move. Already many colleges are having interactions with local industry and sending their students for internships to one of such colleges.
Some private universities like BITS, Pilani is sending their students in 2nd year or 3rd year of Engineering for this internships and without completing these internship, the students of the institute are not allowed for the examinations of that year I understand.
These internships will make the students know about the requirement of the industry and that will definitely enhance their employment opportunities.
