Request to consider change of name

National Council of Educational Research & Training (NCERT) had constituted committees some time back to prepare position papers on various subjects taught at school level. The committee on social sciences was chaired by eminent historian C.I. Issac. This committee has now submitted its recommendation.

Among the recommendations of the committee chaired by Prof. Issac, the most discussed one is its recommendation to replace 'India' with 'Bharat' in school textbooks. Prof. Issac has defended this recommendation stating that: 'Bharat is in our DNA. We have been 'Bharat' for centuries. What is the problem with this? The name 'Bharat' provides recognition to the country's soil.'

In all probability, the Government is going to accept this recommendation as early as possible.

Considering this fact, I strongly suggest to change the name of this website from 'IndiaStudyChannel' to 'BharatStudyChannel' . I am stating this with all seriousness.

The Webmasters and the Managing Editor may kindly consider this suggestion urgently. Other Editors and Members may furnish their valuable opinion as response to this Forum post.

It is a good suggestion from the author. Bharat has been the name of this country for centuries together. The land is ruled by a king called Bharata and the name of this soil became Bharat. Later on, only the name India came as many foreigners were not able to pronounce it properly. Already in NCERT books, the suggestion has been implemented I read in the news.
Is there any official release changing the name of the country to Bharat in place of India? Once such change happens in all places we will see Bharat only and India will vanish. Till such time both India and Bharat will be there and the management will decide which name they want to use.
I am of the opinion that first we all should stop using the word government of India and we should start using the Government of Bharat. Then the process of changing will start.

What the author has indicated carries a weight in his statement. Though we have heard that the name of the country known as India would be modified to Bharat. However let us see how fast such a change would be effected. The name of Bharat reminds us of the governance of the king Bharat once ruled by him.
However, let us wait for the final announcement to be made by the government and once this takes its final shape, India would be replaced by Bharat in the different sites.

Even if we judge from another angle, the name 'BharatStudyChannel' will be more appropriate. Let me explain.

The short form of 'IndiaStudyChannel' is ISC. ISC is equivalent to X+II in Science.

On the other hand, the short form of 'Bharat StudyChannel' is BSC. BSC can be interpreted as Graduation in Science.

Graduation in Science is definitely better than X+II in Science.

Furthermore, alphabetically also, the letter 'B' comes much before the letter 'I'.

So, those who believe in these type of researches will definitely prefer the the new name 'BharatStudyChannel'.

    Hi all,

As of now, there are no plans to change the name of this website. We will stick to the name "India" as long as it is not a negative word to use.
