    The fortnightly TOW is back!

As you know, various contests and reward programs were shelved earlier this year. In the light of this thread, we discussed with the Webmasters the need to revive some of those reward programs.

Accordingly, the Thread of the Week (TOW) that we had changed to the Thread of the Fortnight has been revived. Hurrah! The reward program will roll out next month. A thread will be selected as the best thread from the 1st to the 15th, and then from the 16th to the month-end. The cash prizes will be the same as earlier, with Rs. 60/- for one winner and Rs. 40/- as a special prize. Other threads will also be considered for enhanced points only, with no cash credits. Points will also be enhanced for good responses, with no cash credits.

Going ahead- We will monitor the response we get from members for two months and if we get good participation in terms of numbers and not just quality, then we will discuss with the Webmasters more prizes/cc. The reason why numbers also matter is because, to put it very frankly, it would be good to reward multiple members rather than only a few current active forum participants. The more members participate, the higher the possibility of more rewards.

Important note: We will continue to stick to the new niche on academics. That is, you must continue to submit threads on education/academic-associated topics only.

Before you protest (smiling)- Webmasters have obviously focused on this niche to revive the fortunes of the site and ensure it sustains in a tough competitive market. We have also seen through the forum challenge contest, that where there's a will, there's a way. We did succeed in raising a good number of topics for discussion focusing only on this niche, didn't we? Why not, then, continue in the same vein? Do you want to discuss other topics? Here's the solution - join our associate site SocialVillage.in and have discussions on varied topics there.

We also hope that members don't look towards getting rewards to be motivated to be active participants in the forum. Retain the zeal and enthusiasm to be part of the forum, irrespective of whether there are cash credits and prizes disbursed.

    Happy Deepawali!

A Diwali gift, I must say. Hope this anouncement will help to bring back the vibrancy of the Forum section. Let us all be part of this revival.

Thanks to Dr Srinivasa Rao for the timely reminder.

It is good that the think tank of ISC is trying to encourage member participation in various sections of ISC.
I am happy that my thread evoked some reaction on the site and hope to see an increase in the activity on the site. In fact, I was in two minds and hesitating to open that thread. But finally, I made up my mind.
In addition to members, I feel Editors of this site should also participate actively in the forum section. We see generally only two names ( Vandana and Saji).
As mentioned by the author, I hope there will be a good number of threads added every day and we will have tough competition for the TOW contest.

I welcome this move by ISC. Restarting of fortnightly contest will attract more members to contribute and submit their posts in this category and activity in the site would go up.

Its really great and I welcome this move of ISC. The forum section is looking dull for sometimes but after this move, I hope more participation from the members and members will actively participate in the forum section. Thanks to Dr Rao for a good observation and posted timely.
    Honesty is the best policy.

The recent initiative taken up by the ISC would be helpful in changing the present status of the forum section which we are observing from some time. We felt the undercurrent of the dissatisfaction as a result of its poor shapes. The views expressed by the members for the improvement of the same did not go ultimately noticed and finally the ISC management has taken some steps to ensure that this section regains its old glory.
Hope the recent initiative would be quite fruitful.

"We have also seen through the forum challenge contest, that where there's a will, there's a way. We did succeed in raising a good number of topics for discussion focusing only on this niche, didn't we? Why not, then, continue in the same vein? ".. Let me answer: We are adept in short length dash; but lazy and lethargic in the case of long haul and marathon.

We are good at crisis management, but disinterested in stereotype routine management. However occasional crash programmes yield results. We had a very successful "ISC 13th Birthday Special- A thread a day challenge" contest where at least twenty five participants eagerly participated and continuously churned out threads (a thread-a -day) for fifteen days.

"Do you want to discuss other topics? Here's the solution - join our associate site SocialVillage.in and have discussions on varied topics there."- sorry, there in SV also it is not encouraging for participants even now.

"The reason why numbers also matter is because, to put it very frankly, it would be good to reward multiple members rather than only a few current active forum participants. "- Exactly true. This was and is, my consistent stand since past many years. Spread in participation and prizes is itself a motivating factor.

Lets us hope for best. I also hope I will also be able to participate in the re-appearing, re-avatar TOW contest

TOW is the best contest to make members participate actively in the forum section. The best among the threads submitted during those 15 days will get the award. This type of contest should definitely attract members to submit their threads regularly.
