The importance of environmental protection should be taught in primary school itself

The present-day society is facing many problems due to environmental pollution. Grown-up people may know the reasons for this and may advocate for protecting the environment. However many students who are in high school and college may not understand the seriousness involved in this issue. Many students appear very carefree and never show any respect towards the environment. This attitude may be due to a lack of awareness about the importance of nature protection.

I think this subject should be given more importance in the curriculum and teachers should see that the seriousness of the issue will get into the minds of students when they are in their primary or upper primary classes. If the topic gets into their mind, they never forget the same and take all required steps at least from their side, I feel.

I would like to know the opinion of other members also.

In the school stages, many lessons are taught to the students to make them proficient in fields such as literature, science, social studies, and many more. However, environmental protection is not touched upon. However, they might see the indifferent attitudes of the people neglecting environmental protection. In the villages, they have relatives going to the nearby jungles to cut the trees to be utilized for the domestic fuels. It might be their ignorance that the density of the forestation does the prime duty to absorb the pollutants existing in the atmosphere. It is the vigorous drive of the government to put more plants to take care of the atmosphere. Even such publicity is displayed on the roadside to make the people educated.

However, it could have created more impact if they were taught in the schools regarding the importance of environmental protection in the form of debates, seminars, or other forums to make them more responsive to this aspect.

Rightly observed by the author. Of course, there are lessons in Social Science of all standards about the environment and related alerts. But the way of teaching on such important practical related subjects with much care is highly required for keeping the students in their minds. In our school days, say during 1970s, our teachers besides the subject used to alert us to have much care a) while crossing roads, b)during rainy seasons taking care while crossing the syphons on the roads, c)not to run on the rain waters by splashing the same on others. d)Not to consume ice related items during rainy seasons etc., Still their advises are running into our ears.
