What is the link between state elections and admissions to a university?

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad announced interviews for admission to Ph.D. in their university. Candidates were asked to report to the administrative office of the university yesterday. Some of the candidates reached there early and waited there. Meanwhile, the university placed a notice on its website saying that the interviews were rescheduled. The notice does not mention any reason for the rescheduling. The admission director of the university says he has no idea about the reasons for the unexpected postponement.

Some of the university officials are unofficially mentioning that the state election that is scheduled for the month's end is the main reason for this rescheduling. One of my relative's sons is also one of the candidates who has to come back after knowing about the rescheduling after reaching the university. I fail to understand how elections and interviews are linked with each other.

Some university professors may have election duties. Further, there may be allegations of nepotism and partiality during election time if the university conducts the interview during the election. Most probably, these are the reasons behind the postponement of PhD interview.

However, I do admit that this is unfair to the candidates and creates difficulty for them. The university administration should have fixed the date of the interview keeping in view the election and intimate the postponement to the candidates well in advance.

What the author has indicated seems to be very strange and I don't find any connection between the state election and the admission procedure of the JNU Hyderabad for the Ph. D candidates. We can well imagine the plight of the candidates who made their presence possible despite the fact that they faced many challenges during their onward journeys. All of sudden, they discovered that the interview has been rescheduled but the exact date for such an interview has not been confirmed.
This is nothing but an act of callousness on the part of the university's officials ignoring the hardships of the candidates. Was it not better for the authorities to provide an advanced intimation regarding the latest developments to each and every candidate via their email addresses or otherwise to avert such an ugly situation?
The sad part is that we have had always insensitive to their problems in the event of the cancellation of the interviews.
