Use of mobile phones by students should be curbed

As the crisis of using mobile phones in children is increasing day by day and polluting their total time, care should be taken by parents by setting aside their all schedules. I see in marriage halls, trains and buses many parents give mobile phones to their small children even those under 5 years old by putting some cartoons on the mobiles. This they are doing to keep them busy without disturbing their concentration, but not realize the effect in later stages.

In a recent public meeting, the Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. R. N. Ravi openly stressed the importance of attention of parents and others to keep their children away from the slavery of mobile phones

Besides the above, there are suicides, quarrels, etc, in children for not getting mobiles or when parents are being strict with them about the use of mobiles. We cannot beat them or ban them from using mobile phones as it may turn them to do the same by hiding from them. Instead, they should -
    a) extend their hand to them by showing that they are there for them
    b) sit with them by talking about this and that without keeping them aloof in a private room
    c) talk with children freely and jovially by keeping themselves free from their hectic schedules. It has been seen in many houses, that parents are avoiding their children whenever they are approached for anything, or asking them to serve their food or prepare coffee, etc., by themselves by saying they are busy with other work or they should learn everything by themselves, etc.
    d) taking them to nearby relative houses or temples or prominent places or markets etc.

Yes, I agree with the author that the use of mobile phones is increasing day by day. Even the parents provide the phone to the children under the age of 5. By doing this, they want to busy the children and do not want to be disturbed.
Once the children are habitual to use the phone, you can prevent them from using it everywhere. I have observed that the children (even parents also encourage it) use the phone at the time of lunch and dinner. In my opinion, the parents are responsible for it. Children do not do what we say, they do what we do. So, if we want to minimize the use of mobile phones for children, first we have to minimize the use of mobile phones.

    Honesty is the best policy.

A very good thread from the author highlighting the importance of the attention of parents on their children. In the present day society, we are witnessing a mad rush of people towards earning money. Both father and mother go out for their jobs keeping the children in the house and appoint a servant maid to take care of them. In some houses even though a parent is there in the house also but spend their time with a smart smartphone ignoring the child sitting by his/ her side.
We should not allow students of upper primary classes and primary classes to use smartphones. All schools should implement this meticulously. Even in the houses as mentioned by the author a parent should spend time with the children without keeping his/ her smartphone in his/her hand. Then only we can control children.
Parents or grandparents should be able to pay some attention towards the students studying in primary/ upper primary classes and explain to them the pros and cons of using a smartphone.

Excess use of the mobile phones is due to the infatuation of the children with this apparatus. In fact, they are addicted to their phones due to absolutely no control of their parents due to their busy work schedules. The children get enough time to play games with the smartphones apart from visiting different features. They are ultimately so much addicted to the smartphones that they hardly pay attention to their normal studies.
I agree that their parents have tight official schedules due to their engagements for the office - jobs but at least they can manage their schedules so as to direct their children regarding the best ways of enhancing their concentration in their studies. A regular interaction of the parents could help the children to avert them from excess use of mobile phones.
