Ways to increase appetite in children especially school going ones

Children, especially school going ones lose appetite because of the following reasons:
    • During growth period appetite may temporarily decrease
    • Irregular meals
    • Food allergies or digestive issues
    • Being inactive may reduce hunger
    • Home environment and meal time dynamics can influence appetite
    • Their taste preferences
    • Changes in routine
    • Emotional issues
We can increase the appetite in children in the following ways
    • By offering variety of foods: As children normally interested in variety of foods by seeing in hotels or through friends Tiffin boxes and sometimes not able to express that, we can offer the variety of foods in home.
    • Maintaining a regular meal scheme. In home we can fix time for food at regular intervals.
    • Encouraging family meals. By keeping aside the tight schedules relaxed, family elders can have food collectively during dinner at least.
    • We can create a pleasant eating environment. We can make the meal times enjoyable and stress free and especially talking freely on general topics.
    • Elders in the house should be a role model. It has been observed in many houses children do avoid sweets by seeing their either parents avoiding sweets due to diabetic etc., In some houses elders skipping breakfast etc., By seeing this, the children do follow their parents.
    • Distractions like watching mobiles, Televisions, reading books or discussing serious matters etc., during the meal time should be either minimised or totally avoided
    • Eating snacks should compulsorily be avoided two hours before lunch or dinner. It has been seen in many houses, giving snacks to the children in the late evening and calling them for dinner which results in them poor eating dinner.
    • It is good to involving the children in food preparation as it makes them more interesting in eating
    • It is good to respect their likes and dislikes, don't force them to eat all foods.

I liked the way the author has presented the relevant points on how we can improve the appetite of the children. Whatever he has mentioned is worthwhile and the parents should implement these ideas in the actual process. I liked the last point where he stated that we must take care of their likes and dislikes as well.

Appetite can significantly be improved with the improved liver function. There are different ways how we can restore the same if there is a dysfunction of the function of the same. The best way is to offer them the raisins in the early morning before taking any food. Ten or twelve pieces of raisins should be taken in a cup and put a small amount of water in and soak the same overnight. Regular consumption for at least a fortnight will help in the restoration of the liver remarkably. Moreover discourage them from taking cold drinks like Pepsi, Coca Cola or similar brands apart from packaged foods available in stores, especially the Kurkure.

What the author mentioned in this thread is true and very relevant also. Many children show interest towards fast foods and eat them at every opportunity. This will kill the apatite of the children. So slowly they stop consuming enough food and become weak also.
Parents should see that their children will get habituated to good eating procedures. They should eat on time and see that their children will also eat on time. It is always better to see that children eat food made in the house rather than going out to eat frequently. Once in a while they may be taken to eat outside but not regularly.
Junk food should not be made available to children and parents should clearly explain them the problems that may arise due to the consumption of junk food.
The author has given many points that can be followed by all parents so that their children will not lose their apatite and develop good habits.

Children indeed copy the ways of their elders and in many cases, they acquire eating habits by observing them. At the same time, some children develop habits of eating certain items, especially junk foods and they insist on those items and avoid the healthy foods. That is of course a bad situation and parents must try to bring the children back to taking healthy food that is served in the house during meal times.

Nowadays, many eateries around our houses offer very spicy, colorful, and hot food which attracts the children much and they develop a habit of taking those foods regularly. This affects their appetite and they don't feel like eating the normal food during breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Parents have to be very careful in this matter and showcase their good food habits to the children so that the children can also learn such good habits.

    Knowledge is power.
